The enticing first trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming thriller, titled Hedda, has been unveiled and it has also been announced that the movie will be screened at the 69th British Film Institute London Film Festival (LFF).

The movie, headlined by Tessa Thompson who portrays the main character, is based on the renowned Henrik Ibsen play “Hedda Gabler.” It has been characterized as a daring and innovative retelling (according to TIFF).

Hedda revolves around a discontented newlywed, Hedda, who persuades her husband George (Tom Bateman) to host an extravagant party beyond their means. Interestingly, among the attendees is Eileen Lovborg (Nina Hoss), a potential competitor for an academic position that George aspires to win.

The movie, titled The Marvels, is helmed by Nia DaCosta – director of both The Marvels and Candyman. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she described Hedda as a mysterious character, stating that for over a century, people have often pondered, “What’s her deal?” Using more polite language, she added: “For quite some time now, individuals have been wondering, ‘What is her true nature?’

Hedda is an individual yearning for others to reveal their true selves. She finds herself surrounded by timid individuals and deceit, which leaves her feeling increasingly desolate. This emptiness within her drives her to act in ways she can’t explain – navigating through a world that seems foreign to her.

The trailer emerged after the London Film Festival unveiled its slate for the Official Competition, including the movie “Hedda” among those vying for competition.

The lineup features “Bad Apples,” a school comedy thriller starring Saoirse Ronan, the time-traveling sci-fi movie “Rose of Nevada” with George MacKay and Callum Turner, Amanda Seyfried in the biopic “The Testament of Ann Lee,” and the South Korean drama “The World of Love.

As a thrilled admirer, I’m excited to share that my anticipated film, Hedda, is all set to make its grand debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. In the chilly October, it will also grace the screens at the BFI London Film Festival.
