You need to know about Harlan Coben’s ‘suspenseful’ new Netflix adaptation with ‘twists you’ll never expect’
Besides Harlan Coben’s latest mystery thriller, “I Will Find You,” other unannounced productions from the acclaimed author are also making their way to our screens. Netflix has confirmed that “Run Away” is one of them, and with a cast described as “extraordinary” by Coben himself, viewers can expect an exciting experience.
As a devoted admirer, I’m excitedly tracing the path set by “Missing You” and “Fool Me Once,” not forgetting the unassumingly added mini-series that graced our streaming service in March. Since January, “Run Away” has been in production, and we’ve already glimpsed a few of its stars in action. However, I’ll delve deeper into that topic shortly.
The eight-part television series draws its origins from a novel written by Coben in 2019, sharing the same title. It can be safely asserted that this book was positively received by Coben enthusiasts, with one Amazon reviewer expressing that it “contained unexpected twists and turns…

1. A gripping tale that keeps you hooked throughout its entirety, as one reader put it, or
2. This book will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, another five-star review stated, praising it for being suspenseful and featuring intricate plot twists.
Regarding the storyline of the series, the well-known author shared with Netflix’s Tudum: “Run Away” delves into the depths of family – it explores the lengths we go to preserve our family unit, the secrets we hide within our family, and the secrets that bind us as a family.
Each time you pass by the house, there’s an entire cosmos hidden beyond its doorway, and we all remain unaware of its secrets.
What is the plot of Harlan Coben’s Run Away, coming to Netflix?
Netflix unveiled that the series’ central character is a man named Simon, who appears to be fortunate with his loving spouse and children, excellent career, and stunning residence.
It appears that a dramatic change occurs when his oldest daughter, Paige, suddenly decides to leave home.
As per Netflix, Simon’s quest to find his long-lost daughter leads him into a treacherous underbelly, uncovering hidden truths so profound they might shatter his family bonds for good.
Who is in the cast for Harlan Coben’s Run Away?
For Coben’s latest project, he, as an executive producer, has showered the cast with heartfelt compliments, describing them as a “veritable abundance” or “unmatched wealth.
Actor James Nesbitt, known for his roles in “The Missing” and “Suspect”, will play the main character Simon. Author Harlan Coben praised Nesbitt, stating that he possesses an incredible range of acting skills and always delivers a natural and genuine performance.
Previously, Nesbitt has collaborated with Harlan Coben on screen, appearing in both the television versions of “Stay Close” and more recently, “Missing You”.
In a reunion with author Harlan Coben, Adrian Greensmith will collaborate again, this time on a project with the title “Run Away” for Prime Video.
In the upcoming production, Ellie de Lange, a familiar face from BBC series such as “The Serpent” and “Wolf Hall”, will portray the character of Simon’s daughter Paige who is absent in the story.
After making her comeback in Gavin and Stacey for their final episode, Ruth Jones joins Harlan Coben’s already impressive cast as another intriguing character. Already, we’ve caught a sneak peek of the popular BBC actress on set, and it’s been disclosed that Jones will portray Elena Ravenscroft.
Coben has spoken about how he “can’t wait” for viewers to see Jones in Run Away.
One of the things that makes me adore her is how effortlessly likable she is, and I wanted you to instantly fall for this character, so I’m excited for you to witness Ruth playing this part, which I shared during an interview with The One Show in April.
Apart from that, he jokingly mentioned he’d seen a scene featuring her with James Nesbitt. He expressed his enjoyment of their intense interactions and camaraderie by saying: “I really appreciate seeing them go toe-to-toe and connect.
Apart from that, we’ve caught a glimpse of Tracy-Ann Oberman, famously recognized for her roles in ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Friday Night Dinner’ on Channel 4. Her character has been unveiled as Jessica Kinberg, and photos taken on set show her dressed in business attire, complete with a suit, coat, and glasses.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that the talented Jon Pointing, who brought Danny to life in Big Boys, and Alfred Enoch, whose gripping performance graced Channel 4’s The Couple Next Door, are both part of the stellar cast of Run Away.

Where is Netflix’s Run Away being filmed?
2025 marked the commencement of filming for a fresh Harlan Coben series, with the announcement that its backdrop would encompass both Manchester and the northwestern regions of England.
Coben shared with Netflix that what makes the north of England special is its diversity, featuring a mix of ordinary and peculiar qualities in the surroundings.
Most recently, James Nesbitt was captured in some intense action sequences while playing his character Simon, who seemed to be frantically trying to save his daughter. In the photos, Nesbitt donned a grey suit and was depicted appealing to Ellie de Lange’s Paige. Notably, these were the first images that showed this particular character being present on set.
When is Netflix’s Run Away being released?
Currently, there’s no officially announced premiere date for Harlan Coben’s upcoming limited series. For now, we can only engage in guesswork about when it might be available.
Over the last several years, it’s been customary for a Harlan Coben boxset to debut on Netflix on New Year’s Day. This tradition has served us well, as the Michelle Keegan-starring “Fool Me Once” turned out to be one of Netflix’s most popular shows ever.
2025 saw the release of “Missing You,” starring Ashley Walters and Rosalind Eleazar, leaving me eagerly waiting for its successor. Looking forward, it seems like “Run Away” could fill that gap in early 2026!
Speaking of it, we’re aware that more Harlan Coben series are coming soon, along with many other popular Netflix shows making a comeback. So, let’s keep an eye out for updates on what’s next!
Run Away is set to be released on Netflix, with a confirmed date yet to be announced.
