In my gaming world, the grisliest fate I encountered was that of my character, Julia from Anna Lore’s game. She met an untimely end when a string of misfortunes led her to the back of a garbage truck. Tragically, the truck’s compactor squashed her head, marking her demise in a most brutal manner.
On Instagram, Stein posted a backstage video demonstrating their method for creating that effect, accompanied by a comprehensive description in the post’s caption.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m always excited about innovative creations, and let me tell you, the SPFX team at @pacwestspfx truly outdid themselves! They’ve crafted an astonishingly unique garbage truck – one with a mind-blowing feature that caught my attention. This bad boy sports a crusher, but not just any crusher; it retracts when navigating around obstacles like a head! To add to the safety and functionality, they’ve also designed metal rods with rubber tips, forming a smooth surface. Simply put, this garbage truck is a marvel of engineering and design that has left me speechless!
As a devoted admirer, I shared: “In this video, you’ll find me meticulously trying it out beforehand to ensure it would be comfortable and suitable for @anna_lore during our big day. I wanted everything to be just right!
We placed a large amount of debris inside for filming purposes, and during the shoot, Anna navigated through it. On her first day on set, we accidentally enclosed her in the mess.
Stein clarified that the Visual Effects (VFX) crew had swapped the metal rods for a metal plate following the ‘crushing’ scene, effectively concealing the illusion.
Speaking as a fellow gamer, let me tell you, they definitely didn’t skimp on the fun details! We even attempted to smash a prosthetic makeup head resembling Anna, but it just didn’t have the same impact as this hilarious prank.
Intriguing bit of information: Anna’s acting was so compelling that during her on-screen death scene, she shed a real tear. Though obscured by the blood, a closer look reveals its presence in the film.
Previously, Stein elaborated on the behind-the-scenes trickery used to create the illusion of Julia losing an arm amidst the turmoil. This clever deception involved using a prosthetic arm attached to her shoulder, while her genuine arm was skillfully concealed from view.
In these backstage pictures, he labeled them as showing his team rehearsing a scene where a remotely controlled false limb would split apart perfectly timed.
Initially, there’s a photo displaying a training prop during preparations, while the second image captures the actual shooting day featuring Anna in costume and sporting an arm prosthesis sculpted to resemble her real one. Unfortunately, it detached, causing a blood leak. Brilliant work by the team at @mastersfxstudios!
