Reflecting on the recent turn of events, I found myself feeling quite somber as I stepped out into the public eye once more, following my departure from The Who’s dynamic lineup.
Last week, Ringo Starr’s 59-year-old son was let go from the band. This happened only a month after he was dismissed, then rehired.
Or:
Ringo Starr’s 59-year-old son was recently terminated from the band, which occurred just one month following his initial dismissal and subsequent reinstatement.
With a noticeable expression of discontent, he ambled past BBC Breakfast Studios in Manchester following the announcement, donning a black bomber jacket and plaid pants.
Last week, guitarist Pete Townshend shared on Instagram that Zak, who joined The Who in 1996 as the drummer, is no longer a member of the band.
Instead, Zak swiftly used his personal social platform to assert that the separation wasn’t amicable, and it was actually him who had been dismissed from the band.

Zak’s dismissal occurs mere months before the iconic band embarks on their farewell tour spanning North America, with it being announced that Scott Devours will step in as the drummer instead.
‘Zak has been exceptional on the drums for many years, but now it’s time for a change. This is a significant moment. Zak has numerous new ventures ahead, and I wish him nothing but the best of luck.’
In their subsequent post, Pete and Roger Daltrey stated: “The Who are nearing retirement, but Zak is 20 years younger and boasts a promising future with his new band and various intriguing endeavors.
He should put all his effort into ensuring its success. May we both send him buckets of good fortune.
Scott is stepping in for Zak, a role that Who enthusiasts are familiar with from Roger’s solo performances. We eagerly anticipate the warm reception he receives from all our fans. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are the ones I’m referring to.
Zak countered The Who’s repost by stating that he was let go just two weeks following his reinstatement, and was requested to fabricate a statement claiming he left the band to pursue other musical ventures. In reality, this assertion would be false.
I am deeply committed to The Who, and I would never consider leaving them. Making such a statement about quitting The Who would have disappointed countless individuals who supported me during the chaotic times when I was coming and going like a yo-yo (thank you all a million times over and more).
‘Regarding your question about other projects, I do have ongoing projects, which I’ve always been involved with. The Who haven’t toured extensively most years but did go on two significant tours in 2000 and from 2006 to 2007.’

Zak went on to mention some of his earlier endeavors, then noted that while they’ve been putting out singles, they haven’t toured because the members have been swamped with other commitments. However, this has never affected The Who, and it’s never posed a challenge for them.
‘The lie is or would have been that I quit The Who- I didn’t. I love the who and everyone in it.’
However, on Monday, Zak once more utilized his Instagram platform to express that his account of the situation was again in conflict, this time following a telephone conversation with Roger Daltrey, the vocalist and guitarist for The Who.
Zak shared that Roger informed him that he hadn’t been dismissed, but rather chose to step down to focus on personal endeavors.
He wrote: ‘Ruckus & Bafflement!! We had an excellent phone conversation with Roger toward the end of last week, but it left us both perplexed!!’
Rog clarified that I wasn’t dismissed… instead, I was given the opportunity to work on my personal projects. I shared with Rog that I spent about eight weeks at my studio in Jamaica finishing these projects and that my group Mantra Of The Cosmos would be releasing a single at the start of June. After that, we typically have a run of about 5-6 weeks before moving on to something new. With that cycle concluded, I am fully available for any future commitments.

Rog exclaimed “Oh!”, and our interaction seemed to conclude on a positive note, maintaining our strong friendship as we’ve always done.
‘Gotta love these guys. As my mum used to say “The mind boggles!!!” XXX.’
A week or so has passed since The Who announced their plan to cease touring after 60 years, marking the end of their career with a series of performances in the United States towards the end of this year.
At a press conference held in London, the famed rock group unveiled plans for their goodbye concert series, set to commence in July.
