Throughout the 35 seasons of the “One Chicago” series (excluding “Chicago Justice”), a total of 12 weddings have taken place. Regrettably, not all these unions resulted in fairytale endings. One ceremony never even reached the “I do’s.” However, love has consistently been the focal point in each “One Chicago” television series – “Chicago Fire”, “Chicago PD”, and “Chicago Med”. Consequently, there have been numerous weddings taking place across the city of Chicago.
Given that the world of One Chicago appears to be continuously growing, it’s reasonable to anticipate more weddings to analyze and rate moving forward. It seems like new romantic entanglements emerge at Firehouse 51, the Intelligence Unit, and Gaffney Chicago Medical Center almost every season. Additionally, some existing couples in these procedural shows may tie the knot in the future. At this point, the renowned NBC franchise boasts numerous relationships that culminated in two characters walking down the aisle – a total of 12, to be precise.
12. Natalie & Will
Chicago Med Season 4, Episode 9
Previously stated, the wedding of one Chicago couple in Chicago Med’s fourth season, namely Natalie Manning and Will Halstead, was cut short unexpectedly. Their relationship was akin to a rollercoaster ride, and it seemed like they might finally triumph, but fate had other plans. Instead of exchanging “I do,” the Burke family targeted Will, resulting in him being placed under protective custody.
The positive aspect is that on Chicago Med, Will and Natalie finally found their happy ending, but it took them eight seasons to reach this point. Following season 8, Nick Gehlfuss decided to depart from Chicago Med, culminating in the finale where his character bid farewell to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, choosing to relocate to Seattle for a chance to reconnect with Natalie.
11. Maggie & Ben
Chicago Med Season 5, Episode 17
It’s true that Maggie Lockwood and Ben Campbell’s romance in Chicago Med wasn’t particularly standout, even within the One Chicago franchise, or for their own show. Their love story was charming, though, and it was lovely to see Maggie so happy on her wedding day, albeit an unconventional venue like a bowling alley. However, unfortunately, their marriage didn’t last, as they ended up getting divorced in season 9, which is one reason why their wedding isn’t highly regarded.
10. Charles & CeCe
Chicago Med Season 4, Episode 22
In the fourth season of Chicago Med, it was touching to see Dr. Daniel Charles reconcile with his ex-wife Caroline “CeCe” Charles. Their second marriage was certainly a heartwarming moment, and their Hawaiian-style wedding was unique and memorable. However, as they exchanged vows, it was impossible not to feel a sense of melancholy knowing that CeCe was battling lymphoma. Sadly, she passed away in the fifth season.
9. Halstead & Upton
Chicago PD Season 9, Episode 9
In the world of One Chicago, Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton are undeniably one of the most beloved romantic pairings. However, their wedding, which was rather impromptu and absent of close companions, seemed to fall flat in terms of excitement. It may have mirrored aspects of their relationship, but it was a tad underwhelming nonetheless. Despite this, the depth and passion of Halstead and Upton’s love story made their courthouse wedding a worthwhile event (despite their separation in Chicago PD season 10).
8. Burgess & Ruzek
Chicago PD Season 12, Episode 22
In the final episode of season 12 for Chicago PD, Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek’s nuptials join the growing list of weddings in the One Chicago series, much like Halstead and Upton’s, but left viewers wanting more. Unfortunately, their vows weren’t shared during the episode, and the actual ceremony was minimally portrayed. After 12 seasons of a lingering will-they/won’t-they dynamic, fans hoped for a more fulfilling conclusion. However, given their significance in the show, Burgess and Ruzek’s wedding deserves a higher profile. It’s worth noting that other characters were also present at the ceremony.
7. Boden & Donna
Chicago Fire Season 2, Episode 22
In the One Chicago series, Chief Wallace Boden and Donna Robbins were known for having one of the strongest and most resilient relationships. Among all the connections depicted on Chicago Fire, theirs stood out as the most steady and harmonious. It was thrilling to witness their wedding, a joyous event that seemed flawless. However, the bliss was short-lived as they faced an unimaginable tragedy.
Towards the close of Chicago Fire season 2, Firehouse 51 was summoned to a blaze. Upon arrival, the firefighters and medics ventured inside, leaving Chief Boden outside. As communication with his team ceased, the building detonated. The season finale ended on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers in suspense about the survival status of nearly all Chicago Fire characters apart from Boden. Regrettably, during the season 3 opener, it was revealed that Leslie Shay had perished, which cast a somber note over Boden and Donna’s wedding narrative.
6. Casey & Dawson
Chicago Fire Season 5, Episode 8
Matt Casey and Gabby Dawson were the popular pair during the initial phase of the “One Chicago” series, so their wedding was a joyous event for both the characters and the audience. The ceremony took place in a courtroom similar to where Halstead and Upton got married, but unlike them, Casey and Dawson had their loved ones from “Chicago Fire” present. It was a cheerful gathering, however, it’s hard not to feel a sense of melancholy knowing how the story of Casey and Dawson unfolded in the end.
5. Cruz & Chloe
Chicago Fire Season 8, Episode 19
In the eighth season of “Chicago Fire,” Joe Cruz experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. He was devastated by the loss of his dear friend Otis, which was understandably tough on him. However, amidst this sorrow, one of the happiest moments of Cruz’s life occurred in season 8. He married his beloved partner, Chloe Allen, in a heartwarming ceremony filled with loved ones. The absence and presence of Otis were deeply felt, making Cruz and Chloe’s wedding day one of the most touching weddings within the One Chicago universe (even with Cruz sporting stitches over his left eye).
4. Casey & Brett
Chicago Fire Season 12, Episode 6
Following Casey and Dawson’s split on “Chicago Fire”, Casey found himself drawn into a gradual love story with Sylvie Brett. Both of them were cautious about their feelings, fearing they might upset Dawson. However, despite their initial reservations, the mutual attraction between Casey and Brett was too strong to ignore, leading them to start dating in season 10. Unfortunately, their relationship didn’t last long as Casey had to relocate to Oregon.

Despite the geographical gap between them, Casey and Brett’s affection for each other never waned. Come the finale of Chicago Fire‘s 11th season, Casey made his way back to Chicago and extended a proposal to Brett, which she graciously accepted. The wedding bells chimed a few episodes into season 12, marking a truly enchanting ceremony. Held within an aquarium, Boden officiated the event as expected. Their story reached its perfect conclusion as Casey and Brett embarked on their journey westward towards Oregon, hand in hand under the setting sun, following their nuptials.
3. April & Ethan
Chicago Med Season 8, Episode 9
The romance between Ethan Choi and April Sexton on Chicago Med was a wild ride, much like many other romances in the One Chicago series. Despite their past challenges, nothing could compare to the perfection of their wedding. In the season 8 premiere, they rekindled their relationship, and only nine episodes later, they were married. Their wedding was breathtakingly beautiful and provided a fitting conclusion for Ethan’s character as he and April finally received the happy ending they had longed for all this time.
