The concept artwork for Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday” has sparked excitement among fans. With Jonathan Majors no longer part of the Marvel universe after being let go as Kang the Conqueror, attention is now focused on how “Avengers: Doomsday” will establish Downey’s Doctor Doom as the central antagonist in the Multiverse Saga. So far, Marvel has kept tight-lipped about the film’s plot and character designs, revealing very little. There has been much discussion among fans about what Doctor Doom might look like in the MCU, and if it resembles the art, fans can expect to be pleased.

On Instagram, the account @welove__marvel showed a possible portrayal of how Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom might appear in the movie “Avengers: Doomsday”.

In this fan art, Victor von Doom is depicted with his characteristic scars, while Downey adopts a contemporary take on Doctor Doom’s hood and armor. Two figures resembling Doombots can be seen in the backdrop, possibly hinting at their role in the storyline of “Avengers: Doomsday” if Marvel decides to stay true to the comics when it comes to the villainous character in that film. Currently, there’s no information available about whether Downey’s Doctor Doom will sport the villain’s scarring from the Marvel Comics.

Will Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Have Comics-Accurate Scars In Avengers: Doomsday?

A Look At The MCU Star On The Avengers Movie Set Teased Doom’s Design

In the upcoming Avengers film from Marvel Studios, details about Doctor Doom’s appearance remain undisclosed. However, a significant hint about his design has been given. This clue is subtly presented in the first image of Robert Downey Jr. on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. Although the picture doesn’t depict Downey wearing Doctor Doom’s costume, it does suggest an intriguing detail – Downey will sport numerous dots that will serve as a canvas for computer-generated imagery to be overlaid onto his face throughout the movie. This could imply some fascinating changes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s portrayal of Doctor Doom.

In light of Doom’s scarred visage being integral to his persona and the reason behind his mask, the CGI dots hint that Marvel might employ Visual Effects to ensure Doctor Doom’s appearance aligns with comic book standards. Yet, it could also be that Marvel is using Downey’s face as a reference to create Doctor Doom’s mask or hood with Computer-Generated Imagery. It’s important to note that the MCU has previously utilized CGI masks for characters. While the set photo doesn’t provide a definitive answer, given Downey’s focus on comic book versions of Doctor Doom, an accurate portrayal seems likely.

Our Take On Whether Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Will Have Comics-Accurate Scars In Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel Knows How Beloved Comic Book Designs Are

Since Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man in the MCU has become instantly recognizable, it seems essential to me that Victor Von Doom, the character of Doctor Doom, should be visually distinct from Tony Stark. To achieve this, perhaps his face could be scarred, not only for comic book authenticity, but also so that he stands out when he’s not wearing a mask. As of now, I’m uncertain if this change will occur in future adaptations.

In the image from the Avengers: Doomsday set, the CGI dots might represent scars, but their arrangement suggests they are for the mask instead. However, since Wolverine’s comic-style outfit was well-received, there’s a strong possibility that Doctor Doom could be sporting it in the movie as well.
