Contrary to rumors suggesting a short duration, James Gunn‘s upcoming DC Universe film, the first in the era, is not expected to be a quick watch for those eagerly anticipating the Man of Steel remake. However, Gunn himself advises not to trust reports about the movie’s running time as he provides an encouraging update on its progress before its planned summer premiere.

As for the matter at hand, Gunn answered a fan query regarding the film, making it one of the briefest productions centered around the title character. However, he disputed the reported running time, stating emphatically that it’s “incorrect,” but clarified that it’s “almost completely finalized.” Gunn also disclosed that he and his crew are working on a few visual effects shots over the upcoming weekend, which will provide a clearer picture of the film’s runtime for the reboot.

DC Studios’ co-CEO, Gunn, plays a significant role in the upcoming Superman remake as he not only oversees it but also wrote and produced its adaptation. The renowned director has been meticulously completing post-production work for quite some time now, with filming concluding last summer. Two weeks ago, Gunn shared an update on the visual effects (VFX), following a previous reveal.

In the opening act for DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, Superman leads the way. According to the official summary, director James Gunn reimagines the classic superhero in a fresh new universe, combining grand action, wit, and emotion. The result is a Superman who acts out of compassion and faith in human kindness.

In the upcoming blockbuster, a new actor portrays Superman. The film focuses on Clark Kent’s life at the Daily Planet, delving into his struggle to reconcile his Kryptonian roots while spending time in Smallville. This reimagining also explores Kent’s budding romance with fellow Daily Planet employee Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), and features encounters with various heroes like Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), and his arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). Additionally, Superman’s loyal canine companion, Krypto, is by his side.

Initial estimates suggest the movie is doing well at the box office, which comes as positive news for Warner Bros. executives facing leadership uncertainties, as it may bring in substantial profits. Additionally, the film gained even more momentum at the box office today with another boost.

Superman opens in theaters on Jul. 11.
