2024 proved to be an outstanding year for animation. One of the year’s top-performing animated films, which is now available on, has just been released. [Here, “which is now available on” can be replaced with “has made its way to”.]
The DreamWorks Animation film enjoyed a fantastic theater run followed by continued triumph during award ceremonies. Notably, The Wild Robot was created by Chris Sanders, director of Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon fame, who collaborated with Peter Brown on the storyline. Following its Netflix debut, The Wild Robot quickly gained popularity and climbed high on domestic charts, as reported.
In just a single day, the animated film managed to secure the 10th spot on Netflix’s global charts with a total of 3.3 million views and 5.6 million hours watched. Given that it was only accessible in the United States and New Zealand during this timeframe, its impressive performance is noteworthy.
After Netflix halted its weekly rankings on May 26, “The Wild Robot” continued to climb the charts and has since held the top spot as the number one film in the U.S., pushing aside the latest release from the Fear Street franchise, “Fear Street: Prom Queen.
It’s no wonder that “The Wild Robot” became an instant hit on streaming platforms. In fact, this wasn’t its first stint on streaming, as it had already been made available on January 24th. Interestingly, it quickly climbed to the top spot on the platform following its release, according to reports. Furthermore, it was also released for home viewing options in the same month, including DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD formats.
The movie “The Wild Robot” has been exceptionally well-received, with near-flawless ratings from both critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics gave it a 96% approval rating, while the audience awarded it an impressive 98%. Moreover, it carries the Certified Fresh and Verified Hot badges. Interestingly enough, “The Wild Robot” earned recognition as one of the Best Animated Feature films, though it was edged out by “Flow”. On top of its critical acclaim, it was a commercial success, generating $334.2 million globally against a production budget of just $78 million. (Sources: IMDB and Box Office Mojo)
