Karl Stefanovic found himself at the center of a popular Gen Z meme, with Piers Morgan joining in, following his visit to a well-known eatery in the United Arab Emirates.
On Instagram on Wednesday evening, the host of The Today Show, who is 50 years old, shared a video from their family dinner at Nusr-Et Steakhouse in Dubai with his wife Jasmine and daughter Ava.
The video features Salt Bae, also known as Nusret Gökçe, a man who both created the restaurant and gained popularity online due to his unique method of preparing and seasoning meat.
In the video, I had the privilege of witnessing Salt Bae meticulously preparing a choice cut of steak by seasoning it with a generous sprinkle, which he subsequently passed to an Australian television host for immediate consumption straight from the knife blade.
Afterward, I was savoring my meal when, unbeknownst to me, Piers Morgan, the popular British TV host, playfully sneaked up from behind and added a pinch of salt to my back – quite a comical moment indeed!

Appearing shocked, Karl looked up at Piers, who burst into fits of laughter.
Karl captioned the post: ‘Just got Salt Bae’d @nusr_et with a sprinkle of @piersmorgan.’
Known for expensive steaks, the upscale Nusr-Et restaurant offers some beef cuts that can set you back several thousand dollars to sample.
The menu even includes a gold-covered steak, which comes in at a whopping £1,450 ($3,040).
I found myself facing criticism from Today show viewers recently, when we decided to send our hosts to broadcast live from Dubai during the heart-wrenching NSW floods. As a dedicated follower of the channel, it’s important for me to address this situation and explain our decision.
At present, the hosts of the breakfast show, Karl and Sarah Abo, are temporarily residing at the Atlantis The Royal hotel, which is located on The Palm Jumeirah.
The five-star accommodation starts from $1,400 for a weeknight and $1,600 for a weekend night.
Yet, Nine’s choice to air the show amidst the opulent setting, while devastating floods persistently hit various areas of New South Wales, causing five fatalities and damage to approximately 10,000 properties, has been met with significant criticism.

One person expressed their dismay on social media about how The Today Show is advertising a $20k suite in Dubai, given the cost of living crisis and over 30,000 people being affected by floods in Australia. They find it hard to understand this decision in such difficult times.
And who among the viewers at home could possibly spend $1000 per night to stay there? Such a statement suggests they’re living in a different world, as one person put it.
A third observer noted that there seems to be a gap between the audience engaging with the show and genuinely caring about it at home. While this event might generate some tourism for Dubai, it’s not primarily aimed at satisfying viewers’ preferences.
In the context of an ongoing flood disaster in Australia, it’s not advisable for the hosts to be enjoying a luxury vacation abroad instead of reporting from the affected areas.
On Friday, Karl, Sarah, Richard Wilkins, along with other presenters from the Today Show, flew to the United Arab Emirates.
