As a movie fan, I think she’s become one of the biggest stars working today, and honestly, I think she’s hitting her stride right now. She started with some really fun comedies and proved she could carry a film, but then she started taking on these more challenging, director-focused projects, and suddenly she was an Oscar contender! She got her first nomination for Birdman back in 2014, and then just two years later, she won Best Actress for La La Land. Plus, her chemistry with Ryan Gosling? It felt like watching a classic Hollywood romance unfold – they just really clicked, and I loved seeing them together on screen throughout the 2010s.
Emma Stone’s career took off after she began working with director Yorgos Lanthimos. Their collaboration has clearly energized both of them, leading to some of their most acclaimed films. Around the same time, Stone also started producing, and she received a Best Picture nomination for Lanthimos’ Poor Things, a role that also earned her a second Best Actress award.
Emma Stone isn’t just an actress; she’s also a producer who supports films she believes in, like I Saw the TV Glow and A Real Pain this year. She also produced Bugonia, which features one of her most praised performances yet. Now, fans can watch Bugonia at home starting November 25th on VOD, though it’s a film that might be unsettling to watch.
Bugonia Is Now On Digital After Its Platform Release Failed To Ignite The Box Office
Yorgos Lanthimos’s films have had varying levels of success at the box office. He started with low-budget, independent films that did reasonably well. Then, The Favourite became a major hit, earning over $95 million worldwide. His next film, Poor Things, continued this trend, bringing in $111 million globally and showing his collaboration with Emma Stone could be very profitable. However, his 2024 film, Kinds of Kindness, didn’t perform as well, earning only $16 million and returning to the box office numbers of his earlier work.
Currently, Bugonia is performing moderately well. While it had a strong opening weekend in wider release, earning Yorgos Lanthimos his best wide release weekend with $5 million domestically, its performance has slowed down since then. The film has earned $32 million globally so far, but is playing on fewer screens. As it gains attention during awards season, the filmmakers are counting on digital sales to boost revenue, as the distributor receives a larger share of those earnings.
Starting today, November 25th, you can now rent or buy the movie Bugonia on digital platforms like Amazon, Apple TV, and Fandango. It’s been about a month since it was in theaters. You can purchase the film for $24.99 or rent it for $19.99 – standard pricing for a new release. Since it’s a Focus Features film from Universal, it will likely be available on Peacock streaming at some point, but it will remain at these rental and purchase prices while it’s still playing in theaters.
I’ve been hearing amazing things about this movie! SR gave it an 8 out of 10, and both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes really loved it – 87% and 84% respectively. It seems like a must-see, especially if you’re following the awards season. Bugonia is definitely gaining momentum for a Best Picture nomination, and the performances from Stone and Jesse Plemons are getting incredible praise. I’m really hoping Plemons finally wins an Oscar – it would be his first! – but Stone could make history as only the third woman to win Best Actress three times, right after Frances McDormand and Katharine Hepburn. It’s a really exciting time for film!
