Penn Badgley, who you know from Penn, has shared candidly about his struggle with body dysmorphia, expressing feelings of dislike towards his physical appearance.

20-year-old actor gained widespread recognition for portraying Dan Humphrey in the teenage drama series Gossip Girl, after starting his career in Hollywood as a young talent.

At the age of 39, he’s shared his experiences of fame at a young age, highlighting its potential drawbacks, as well as his attempts to emulate the on-screen personas of actors he admired from films.

Speaking with The Guardian about his unidentified issue, Penn shared, “I acknowledge that I despised my physical appearance and longed for a completely different one.

During a specific phase in my life, I transitioned from battling depression and seclusion, finding myself both eagerly diving into and involuntarily immersed within a realm. In this sphere, the greater my perceived conventional attractiveness, the higher potential for success I held, and the more worth ascribed to me.

The individual attributes his weight gain to emotional responses triggered by his parents’ divorce and social seclusion during childhood. Later in life, he endeavored to emulate the physical appearances of his favorite celebrities he saw on screen.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but confess that the central theme of Gossip Girl – the luxurious lives of Manhattan’s elite teenagers in the Upper East Side – only intensified my fixation on my own appearance.

Penn first emerged as the leading character in the Netflix series “You,” beginning when he was 30 years old, and the show’s fifth and last season is set to premiere on April 24th.

He portrays the character of psychopath Joe Goldberg, a murderer who stalks and kills women, and has generated news attention by inquiring from showrunner Sera Gamble if he could reduce the number of explicit scenes in the show.

The actor strongly reinforced his criticism towards explicit scenes in television series, contending that their primary purpose is to arouse or excite.

For quite some time, sexual violence has been prevalent, and there remains a significant disparity between the genders, he noted. There are numerous factors warranting our attention regarding sexuality, yet a sex scene fails to delve deeply into this matter in a meaningful way.

Penn similarly pointed out that these types of scenes are often unrealistic and rarely depict the application of birth control or discussions between partners about it.

It comes after the star and his wife Domino Kirke, 41, revealed they are expecting twins.

Last month, Domino announced on Instagram, “We’re expecting babies number 3 and 4 this Summer! What a surprise twist! The arrival of spontaneous twins is nothing short of enchanting,” she said.

The news emerged a few days following Penn’s disclosure about his parenting approach, specifically discussing the methods he uses to maintain his composure around his children.

In an uncommon instance, the actor from ‘You’ revealed additional insights into his personal family life during a live recording of the Modern Love podcast on February 21, at the Wythe Hotel, as reported by People.

In the podcast discussion, he shared an instance where he felt he might have been abrupt with his son. He admitted that in response, he practiced a relaxation technique involving deep breaths.

In a situation where emotions were running high, I realized my eagerness wasn’t beneficial as he was already deeply upset. So, I paused and asked, “I might be coming across as imprudent, and perhaps you aren’t fond of how I’m addressing you, am I correct?

He explained that he then apologised to his son afterwards.

As a devoted parent myself, I found myself delving into the challenges that parenthood presents, acknowledging its undeniably tough moments along the way.

‘Sometimes it can be tough and you can just be over it,’ he admitted during the live taping. 

In any case, there will inevitably be moments as a parent when you may find yourself running short on patience.

To me, it’s their tiny size that captivates me, combined with their innocence and vulnerability. Normally, I might get frustrated with others, but not him.
