York-set crime show that’s ‘Channel 4’s biggest drama of 2025’ confirms new detective for second season
Channel 4’s biggest drama of 2025 so far, Patience, is set to return for a second season.
In the first show that premiered earlier this year, we encounter Patience Evans, an autistic employee at Yorkshire Police’s Criminal Records department, portrayed by Ella Maisy Purvis. Her exceptional skills in solving crimes catch the attention of DI Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser). Together, they join forces to unravel a string of intricate murder mysteries.
In the year 2025, the first season of the series titled “Patience” drew an average of 4.2 million viewers, marking it as the most-watched drama on Channel 4 to date in that year.

Filming is now underway for the second season, and we can look forward to seeing Simon Callow reprise his role as Patience, along with Jessica Hynes from “Spaced” who’s joining the cast as Detective Inspector (DI) Frankie Monroe.
The second season of Patience is expected to consist of eight episodes instead of the original six, however, as of now, there’s no set date for its release.
As I, a dedicated gamer, dive back into the world of City of York Police, I’m ready to continue my work in the criminal records department. After proving my worth as an irreplaceable team member, I bring my distinct perspective to solve a string of puzzling cases.
As a follower, I found it quite challenging when our new leader, Detective Frankie Monroe, approached things in an entirely distinct way. Navigating the dynamics between us two wasn’t always easy.
In this show, love blooms among characters as Patience enters a romantic bond with her coworker, Elliot. Meanwhile, a fresh look is given to the police department with the introduction of a new public relations expert. All the while, they delve into fascinating mysteries set in unique locations like York Minster.
Regarding the upcoming season of the show, actor Purvis expressed his excitement about returning as Patience: “The initial series was incredibly successful and well-received, leaving me absolutely delighted to delve once more into the realm of Patience for Series 2. This is particularly exciting because we have some truly intriguing new mysteries to solve.” So, get ready!
As I step into the fold, I can’t help but feel exhilarated! I’m overjoyed to become part of the Patience cast, taking on the role of DI Frankie Monroe. I was hooked from the get-go with the first season and can hardly wait to dive into the action alongside this talented team for the second series.
For season two, we have some familiar faces returning. They include Nathan Welsh from the series “Trying”, Mark Benton known for his role in “Smoggie Queens”, Adrian Rawlins who starred in “Chernobyl”, Ali Ariaie, a cast member of “Doctor Who”, and Connor Curren from the show “Dodger”.
The ensemble is rounded out by A Real Pain‘s Liza Sadovy and Gentleman Jack‘s Tom Lewis.
Jo McGrath, the Chief Creative Officer at Eagle Eye Drama, expressed in a statement: “We’re incredibly proud of the success of ‘Patience’ in the UK, and the extended recommission is a true reflection of the exceptional skills of our talented cast and crew, under the skillful direction of Maarten Moerkerke.
In Series 2, we’re in store for an even more thrilling ride, ending with a heart-stopping hostage scenario and a startling family secret that unravels for the character named Patience.
