Yes, we definitely need Sunny season 2 on Apple TV+ (And here's why)

As a gamer who has seen more TV shows than I’ve completed levels in games, I can confidently say that the finale of Sunny was a rollercoaster of emotions! It was a satisfying conclusion to the storyline, and it left me eagerly waiting for a potential season 2.

The final episode of “Sunny” on Apple TV+ is currently available to stream, and it did not disappoint! I found it to be a fantastic finale, with numerous plot threads neatly tied up that kept me engaged as a viewer who’s followed this tale for the past ten episodes. Now, the obvious question that arises is whether the series will be renewed for another season

As I’m typing this, Apple TV+ has neither renewed nor cancelled the series “Sunny” starring Rashida Jones. Don’t panic just yet, as it’s common for shows to wait several weeks, or even months, before deciding on a renewal. While some shows receive early renewals, it’s not uncommon for productions to finalize their decisions after the finale has been released

I truly hope that we get a second season of Sunny, as I strongly believe it’s essential. Let me explain why! (Spoilers ahead.)

Unexplained loose ends

The show skillfully combines humor and enigma, creating an engaging blend that’s one of the main reasons I found it so captivating. I believe it distinguishes itself from many other options available today, which can often feel repetitive. Consequently, I strongly advocate for the continuation of Sunny, given its exceptional quality

Let’s delve deeper into some specific points. One significant point is that numerous aspects of the narrative remain unresolved. The tale certainly maintains an enigmatic atmosphere. For instance, what was Masa’s motivation for creating the Dark Manual if it poses such a risk? How did Hime come to possess Zen and Masa?

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel elated that Suzie managed to meet Zen, Masa’s son. However, this reunion has left me puzzled. Could the plane crash have been orchestrated? It seems plausible, yet the details are hazy. Therefore, there remains a need for clarification in this pivotal moment that serves as the foundation for the entire narrative

Regarding Masa, there seems to be some doubt about his fate. Since my years of binge-watching TV have taught me that if we don’t actually see a character’s body, it leaves room for uncertainty. Hime claimed Masa is dead, but considering her history with Suzie, she might be trying to pull a fast one. I’d feel more secure knowing there’s absolute confirmation about his status

The Mixxy twist

Mixxy has been a great friend to Suzie, but I feel like we’ve all had some doubts about her motives as the episodes have gone on. And we were right! When Suzie reunites with her son, she knows that the Yakuza are still a threat and she has to separate from Mixxy. That’s because Hiromasa says there’s someone who can remove Sunny’s killer code but he’s in Tokyo. And so, Mixxy volunteers to take Sunny there.

Initially, it seemed that Mixxy’s actions were not purely out of kindness. It’s now revealed that Mixxy is associated with the Yakuza and has been collaborating with Tanaka. However, there’s a hint of sadness in her expression when we focus on her face, which suggests that Mixxy might indeed have developed genuine affection for Suzie over time

If another season of “Sunny” is produced, it introduces an engaging plot twist and conflict for her character, making it intriguing to witness the dynamic tension between the two friends. All in all, there are numerous possibilities for the narrative’s progression, which is why I believe a second season of “Sunny” is definitely a good idea. What are your thoughts?
