Yes, that was King Robert Baratheon from Game of Thrones on Dune: Prophecy

As a movie reviewer who has spent countless hours binge-watching epic fantasies, I must say that “Dune: Prophecy” episode “Sisterhood Above All” was a captivating journey into the past of the Harkonnens. The casting choices were spot on, particularly Mark Addy as Evgeny Harkonnen, reminding me of his fiery King Robert Baratheon days in “Game of Thrones.

In last night’s episode titled “Sisterhood Above All” of the series Dune: Prophecy, we delved primarily into flashbacks, exploring the journey that Valya and Tula Harkonnen took to become part of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. We were also introduced to their wider family, such as their uncle Evgeny Harkonnen, who served as the head of the family. Tragedy struck when his nephew Griffin was murdered, leaving Evgeny feeling even more bitter and cold-hearted, having previously relied on Griffin to elevate House Harkonnen out of its current standing.

If you’re a fan of “Game of Thrones”, you might have felt like you knew Evgeny from somewhere. He is portrayed by Mark Addy, who played the blustery King Robert Baratheon in the first season of the series. Although King Robert perished before the end of the first season, fans remember him for his abrasive nature and he became a central figure in numerous memes. Somewhere, Lancel is still searching for that breastplate stretcher.

You can see a bit of King Robert in Evgeny Harkonnen; they’re both powerful men who can be openly combative. Mark Addy was a great choice for the role.

Towards the close of the episode, after the flashback concludes and we rejoin the present, it’s revealed that Evgeny is miraculously alive, though he hovers precariously near death and relies on a levitating scooter for mobility. This reminds us somewhat of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen from the original Dune story, who floats around using suspensors, hinting that this ability might be a family trait.

House of the Dragon star Archie Barnes shows up in Dune: Prophecy

In “Sisterhood Above All,” it wasn’t just Mark Addy who made an appearance from the Game of Thrones world. Eagle-eyed fans of House of the Dragon might have spotted Archie Barnes, remembered for his portrayal of the tough Oscar Tully in the second season. In this story, Barnes took on the role of Albert Atreides, the youngest and the sole survivor of the clan who endured a gruesome massacre.

Previously, I noted that Evgeny Atreides developed a cold and bitter demeanor following the demise of his nephew Griffin. Similarly, Griffin’s sisters, Tula and Valya, are not pleased with this change either. In fact, it is Valya who drives the plan for vengeance against Vorian Atreides, the one responsible for Griffin’s death (as depicted in the Dune prequel novels by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson). Tula then forms an alliance with Orry Atreides, manages to attend an Atreides family gathering, and subsequently contaminates the food, resulting in poisoning many attendees. However, she shows mercy on the young Albert at the end of her spree of violence.

In the past, several decades before the storyline unfolds in our main series, Archie Barnes portrays Albert. Since he’s likely much older now if still alive, another actor might play Albert in future episodes. However, surprises can happen – keep an eye out for new episodes of Dune: Prophecy on Sunday nights on HBO and Max to find out!
