Yellowstone’s Luke Grimes Scores Spinoff Amid Costner Feud

Yellowstone star Luke Grimes has landed his very own spinoff.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that the actor known for his role as Kayce Dutton in the series, will be the central figure in the upcoming show tentatively titled “Y: Marshals.

On the CBS show, Kayce will join the US Marshals in this saga set in Montana.

Previously, Kayce was depicted residing in a secluded area of the Yellowstone ranch. It is yet to be determined if future episodes will involve his wife Monica and their son Tate, portrayed by Kelsey Asbille and Brecken Merrill in the initial series.

In my professional opinion, I find myself merging my expertise as a cowboy and a Navy SEAL to uphold justice across Montana’s vast landscapes. Here, my team and I grapple daily with the complexities of maintaining harmony between our personal lives, professional duties, and the heavy emotional toll that comes from standing as the final barrier against the rampant violence in this region.

Following Luke’s response to Kevin Costner, who stated that shooting the finale of season five was simpler without the industry legend, as he was no longer present.

Luke, 41, played the son of Costner’s rancher patriarch John Dutton.

Kevin dramatically departed from the series prior to its concluding episodes, following sensational rumors of conflict with its mastermind, Taylor Sheridan.

Reflecting on the conclusion of our journey together, I must admit that the final episodes were particularly effortless to work on. With some of the internal conflicts resolved, the atmosphere on set became noticeably more peaceful. However, I would like to clarify any speculation regarding disagreements with Kevin. While we may have had our differences, I can assure you there were no lingering hard feelings between us.

Luke has also been cast in Eddington, a film by Midsommar and Hereditary director Ari Aster.

The film is set against the backdrop of both the COVID-19 outbreak and the initial stages of the Black Lives Matter protests. It stars Luke alongside an impressive ensemble of actors, including Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, and Pedro Pascal.

Luke posted a movie poster on Instagram, sporting the witty hashtag ‘#HindsightIs2020’, a playful reference to the current times of the coronavirus pandemic.

The picture depicts a well-known shot by David Wojnarowicz, showing buffaloes plunging from a precipice. This photograph was taken amidst the AIDS crisis, which ultimately took the artist’s life as well.

The story features Joaquin portraying a sheriff in a quiet town of New Mexico, while Pedro takes on the role of the mayor. Their conflicting personalities lead to a power struggle, which eventually pulls in the townsfolk.

Featuring Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, and Clifton Collins Jr., the movie Eddington is set to be released on July 18th.

Luke shone brightly during the long-running, highly acclaimed five-season span of Yellowstone, portraying Kayce Dutton – a key character from the ranching family central to the plot.

Kevin departed the series following the completion of just the initial portion of season five, leading to his character, John, being written off through a murder-plot scenario involving hired guns.

His exit from the show was shrouded by whispers of disputes with Taylor Sheridan, but it seems that he eventually chose to leave due to scheduling clashes with his own four-part Western film, Horizon, which he led as director, actor, and co-writer.

Over the course of several decades, Kevin invested more than $38 million of his personal funds into a project he was deeply passionate about, which finally premiered its initial segment last year. Regrettably, the opening at the box office was disappointing.

While Yellowstone concluded the second half of its fifth season in 2024, opinions among fans were split – not long after this, Luke provided an insightful interview discussing the reasons behind Kevin’s departure.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Luke expressed that it was evident to him that the time had come for John Dutton to depart, saying, ‘I’m hoping everyone can recognize this.’ Regarding his character Kevin, he added that a significant portion of the series’ conflicts were tied to him, and with him gone, some of those issues were no longer present.

He expressed: ‘Clearly, it wasn’t particularly enjoyable to spend time with… Now, I’m not accusing anyone, but this was probably the most straightforward season we had while filming.’

As a die-hard fan, I can confess that ever since Kevin Costner departed from the show, we haven’t exchanged words. But let me assure you, there’s no animosity or resentment involved; it’s merely because he is Kevin Costner – an iconic figure who commands respect and admiration.

He confirmed: ‘I do indeed possess his contact number, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to initiate contact. If he wishes to get in touch with me, he is more than welcome to do so.’

DailyMail.com has obtained exclusive footage showing that Kevin declined to address rumored feuds with Luke, and revealed that they haven’t communicated since the show ended.
