As a devoted fan of Yellowstone, I must say that the unexpected demise of John Dutton left me reeling! The sheer audacity of the writers to take out such a pivotal character left me stunned and disheartened. It felt like they had snatched away a dear friend from our living rooms.

Yellowstone‘s Luke Grimes has addressed the “negative” reactions to John Dutton’s death.

Earlier this month, the popular show came back for the second part of its last season, leaving fans stunned as they watched the initial episode, in which Kevin Costner’s character – the family patriarch – was abruptly killed off following an attack by Sarah Atwood (played by Dawn Olivieri).

Fans of Yellowstone expressed their disappointment swiftly on social platforms, especially following hints from series director Christina Voros that Kevin Costner might have a significant part in the show’s ending.

In fact, Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton on screen, has disclosed that the intention was always for John’s character to depart.

He mentioned that there have been some unfavorable responses, and it seems they are somewhat disappointed or left unsatisfied, according to his recent talk with People magazine.

It’s clear that having Kevin with us throughout our show was indeed fortunate. His departure was necessary for the plot to intensify, as planned, because we were dealing with a pivotal storyline: the loss of our family’s patriarch. Now, the question is whether the children can manage on their own.

Grimes added, ‘It seems his original fate was to pass away sooner, but instead, the story gave us far more John Dutton than initially planned. So consider this when you watch.’

Initially, it seemed that John took his own life by shooting himself in the head while on the bathroom floor. But further investigation uncovered that Sarah orchestrated events to create this impression, as she’d convinced the murderer to stage the scene to hide her involvement.

A short while following its broadcast, Costner stated that he hadn’t watched it yet, expressing his disinterest by commenting: “I didn’t catch it. I’ve been told it involves suicide, which isn’t compelling me to hurry up and watch it.

Regarding the rumors about John taking his own life, he commented: “They’re quite intelligent individuals. It might be a misdirection tactic. We can never tell for sure. They’re excellent at what they do, and they’ll undoubtedly uncover the truth.
