Yellowstone star throws major shade at Kevin Costner with new statements about final season
As a devoted Yellowstone fan with a heart full of Dutton Ranch memories, I must confess my feelings about the apparent rift between Kevin Costner and Luke Grimes is akin to witnessing a family feud that’s tearing apart the very foundation of my beloved TV family.
It appears that Kevin Costner and his Yellowstone co-star, Luke Grimes, have a strained relationship since Costner’s unexpected exit from Paramount’s successful series.
In February 2023, Deadline published reports hinting at potential issues on the set, indicating that Kevin Costner was allegedly creating “frustration” with series creator Taylor Sheridan due to his limited shooting schedule. According to sources from Deadline, Costner had committed to just 65 days of filming for Yellowstone and wished to dedicate only a week to shoot the second half of the show’s final season.
Approximately three months from now, in May 2023, Paramount revealed that the successful series would conclude with its fifth season. For several months, there had been whispers and speculation about Costner departing the show, but it wasn’t until June 20th that he officially confirmed his exit via an Instagram post. In the video, Costner announced to fans that he wouldn’t be coming back for the last episodes of the series, expressing, “As I reflect on Yellowstone, I’ve come to understand that I won’t be able to participate in season 5B or beyond.
It appears Kevin Costner’s departure may have caused quite a stir, with the final season being surrounded by rumors of behind-the-scenes tension. There might have been genuine animosity between Costner and his fellow cast members, based on recent statements from one of Costner’s former co-stars.
In her recent chat with Esquire, Grimes hinted at some significant friction between herself and Costner while filming, suggesting they were often at odds on the set.
In all truthfulness, having Kevin absent from our midst did eliminate some of the strife we’d been experiencing. However, it wasn’t exactly a joyous time for us. To clarify, it turned out to be the most straightforward filming season we’ve had so far.
It appears there could be additional details about the story that haven’t been fully disclosed, and Grimes’ comments suggest that Kevin Costner may have presented challenges beyond just the creative team during filming, potentially also affecting his fellow cast members.
Although viewers might long for John Dutton’s presence in the final season, it appears that the cast didn’t miss Kevin Costner on set at all. His absence may have actually fostered a more efficient work environment according to Grimes’ statements. In essence, this situation seems logical because reports suggested Costner limited his time on set, which could complicate filming. So, without Costner being required for the season, we can infer that managing the filming process became less challenging since all essential personnel were readily available throughout the shooting period, rather than being confined to a specific window of time.
Yellowstone‘s series finale airs Sunday, Dec. 15 on Paramont Network.
