As a seasoned actress with a career spanning two decades, I must say that Dawn Olivieri is a force to be reckoned with. Her ability to embody complex and captivating characters like Sarah Atwood on Yellowstone and Claire Dutton in 1883 is nothing short of remarkable.

In the fifth part of Yellowstone, Dawn Olivieri took on the role of a wolf among snakes as Sarah Atwood, a character whose depiction as a dangerous seductress had spectators biting their nails in anticipation.

Regardless of being killed off in episode three of ‘Yellowstone’s 5B, Dawn managed to make a lasting impression on Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western series with her performance in the first half of the finale.

Currently, a 43-year-old American actress shares her unique experiences during the filming of intimate scenes with her co-star Wes Bentley (portraying Jamie Dutton), and discusses her strategy to keep distance from her on-screen rival, Kelly Reilly (playing Beth Dutton), while working together, in an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Australia.

The lawyer named Sarah left a strong impact on the Dutton family, especially their son Jamie, who developed feelings for her.

I found myself deeply engrossed in a whirlwind romance with Jamie that left an undeniable impact on our TV show. The actors portraying our characters, Dawn and Wes, both 46 years old, dared to push boundaries by performing intimate, uncensored scenes.

If you’re not present, it’s hard to understand just how ordinary [sex scenes] can seem in reality,’ Dawn chuckled when questioned about the behind-the-scenes action during those passionate scenes.

She continued: ‘It’s the farthest thing from an honest sex scene that you can ever imagine… They’re very technical. They’re very cautious.

‘Everybody’s making sure everybody is comfortable, everything is okay.

You quickly dive into those instances, only for a fleeting moment, then it feels like, “Time to pause, let’s reset and tidy up the costumes again.

At ease with one another, Dawn shared that she and Wes frequently shared hearty laughter since their familiarity eliminated the need for their intimacy coach to intervene extensively.

In simpler terms, she mentioned that her primary duty was to fetch breath fresheners or chewing gum. She stated this repeatedly as nothing out of the ordinary for her, given her extensive experience in her profession.

Typically, I find myself accommodating others more than I am uncomfortable, ensuring their comfort and making sure things go smoothly for them.

‘We laugh a lot, too. It helps to dispel any sort of awkwardness that bubbles up.’

In contrast, during the filming of intimate scenes with Wes, she mentioned that she didn’t feel any apprehension requiring relaxation on his part. Instead, they shared a bond reminiscent of siblings away from the camera.

Wes and I shared a genuinely enjoyable camaraderie while working together on the set. We’d often chat, share meals, and laugh plenty, according to her.

He possesses an exceptional wit, sharing compatible views on life and spirituality with me. Spending time with him was simply enjoyable and entertaining.

The atmosphere was reminiscent of siblings spending time together and engaging in activities. When it came to filming intimate scenes, it was merely a continuation – laughter persisted, albeit with fewer garments involved.

Regarding the character portrayed by Kelly, who plays Wes’ on-screen sister Beth, Dawn mentioned that she had to keep a distance from the English actress to more convincingly dislike her on-screen persona.

However, contrary to their on-screen rivalry on Yellowstone and its prequel 1883, Kelly is not just a formidable foe for Dawn, but also an exceptional person off-set, as the actress herself acknowledged.

‘I run a horse rescue in Arkansas called Moon Mountain Sanctuary,’ Dawn explained.

[Kelly] is so remarkable that although we seem to be enemies in our screen appearances, behind the scenes, she contributes to my horse sanctuary. What an amazing person for doing something like that!

Although they share many similarities as actresses and Dawn would love to foster a strong bond with Kelly off-screen, she makes it a point to keep her distance during filming whenever convenient.

She mentioned that she doesn’t socialize with this person or engage in conversation with them. In fact, during filming, she won’t be standing near them or exchanging casual chit-chat, as they are considered an adversary.

‘Everybody does it different, but I’m pretty method with the way that I act.’

Later on, Dawn mentioned that they, (Dawn and Kelly), had exchanged text messages upon learning they’d be teaming up, with Kelly expressing her eagerness about collaborating with Dawn.

In her words, she said, “I’m really thrilled that you’re involved in this. You’re quite a powerhouse.” To which I responded, “To be honest, if it weren’t for the fact that I should despise you so deeply, I’d invite you on a hiking trip.” Dawn shared this conversation.

‘But we’re not going to do that.

As someone who forms strong connections easily, I find it challenging at times to delve deep into a character’s emotions when working closely with a fellow actor, given the depth of feelings we need to create together and the subtle layers required in our scenes.

‘We never actually really became friends. For me, I know it’s for that reason.’

Despite feeling sad about parting ways with the clever, enigmatic character Sarah, Dawn has become accustomed to giving her all and making memorable exits with such intriguing characters.

Dawn remarked, “Who doesn’t enjoy stepping into the shoes of someone we all dream of being, but for valid reasons, we can’t. The villain often has the opportunity to perform exciting actions.

‘We get to say the things nobody wants to say, nobody has the b**ls to say… The villain is the thing that makes you better. It’s the thing that creates a hero, truly.

‘To me, that’s a fun character. It’s fun being the springboard of a hero.’

Since the early 2000s, Dawn has been a familiar face in both films and television series. However, she gained significant recognition for her portrayals of Lydia in the series ‘Heroes’ and Monica Talbot on ‘House of Lies’.

Over the past few years, this prominent Hollywood actor has been collaborating extensively with director Taylor Sheridan, age 54. Their partnership began when he was cast as Claire Dutton in the prequel to Yellowstone titled 1883.

Her performance on the series was so incredible, Taylor invited her back to play Sarah Atwood in Yellowstone, and now Amber Whalen in Special Ops: Lioness.
