Yellowstone Sequel in Chaos: Beth & Rip Stars Reportedly Feuding Behind the Scenes
The ongoing disputes surrounding the Yellowstone series might not be resolved just yet. After the highly publicized exit of Kevin Costner from the franchise, it appears that the main actors starring in the sequel series, Dutton Ranch, are causing a stir with their own demands for the upcoming season.
It was revealed during Paramount’s Q1 earnings call that Dutton Ranch will premiere on Paramount+ in November alongside the second season of Landman. However, filming has not yet begun, and a recent report speculates that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s spinoff, focusing on their characters Beth and Rip, is facing issues due to their reported demands for prominent roles in the show. The accuracy of this report is dependent on its sources.
The series, now called Dutton Ranch, continues the story from Yellowstone’s finale, bringing back Beth and Rip, played by Reilly and Hauser respectively, on a different ranch. Interestingly, the concept for this show was first brought up in 2023, and it was mentioned that a well-known actor like Matthew McConaughey might have been approached to headline it due to certain challenges with Costner.
As per RadarOnline’s report, McConaughey’s departure from the project might be the reason why no major celebrities have been linked to it yet, unlike The Madison which has Michelle Pfeiffer involved. The potential cause is that Reilly and Hauser aim to be the lead stars and highest-paid actors in the series. A source noted this as the possible explanation.
There’s quite a stir amongst the team about Kelly and Cole, with many believing they’re becoming overly demanding and arrogant. Some feel they’re trying to take control before the series has even begun filming, which others find off-putting.
Is the ‘Yellowstone’ Sequel Going to Be a Weak Link in Sheridan’s Chain?
It’s likely not unexpected that, given their significant roles in the Yellowstone narrative for so long, Reilly and Hauser would express a desire for their characters’ story to progress further. Notably, their views have consistently influenced the show’s development, but with no scripts prepared at present, the situation remains uncertain even with a November release window on the horizon. They stated:
As a passionate movie critic, I’m eagerly anticipating the return of the beloved Dutton family saga on screen. The creators have expressed their firm belief that these characters should take center stage once more, and production is set to commence before the summer’s end, around late July. However, the fate of this continuation hangs in the balance until the scripts penned by Taylor Sheridan are finalized. Until then, the title remains undecided.
Without a doubt, if Dutton Ranch is indeed released under that title, there will be numerous obstacles to overcome as a sequel to Yellowstone’s controversial finale. Given that filming isn’t scheduled to start until July, it appears quite challenging to meet the deadline for broadcast in November, suggesting an extremely tight production schedule.
