Actress Christina Ricci, famous for her role in “Yellowjackets,” shares her strategies for handling the relentless paparazzi during the initial stages of her career.
The actress who portrays Misty Quigley on the suspenseful series, started her acting career at age nine in the 1990 film “Mermaids.” A year after that, she landed the role of Wednesday Addams in “The Addams Family,” which catapulted her to global recognition.
Despite gaining fame through roles in movies like “Casper” and “Now and Then,” which made him a teen heartthrob, Shia LaBeouf admitted during an interview on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast that the early exposure to stardom had its difficulties.
Recalling the situation, Ricci expressed that she disliked it since the paparazzi would chase her right up to her home. Being alone at that time made it feel quite intimidating for her. Before describing her strategy to mislead the media, she added that she had a trick to confuse them about her whereabouts.
On the street corner stood a liquor store, where a man named Rick typically worked. Rick, a smoker, was the only individual I’d allow to address me as Chris.
Should anyone ever trail behind me, I’d park at the liquor store and inform Rick, who’d step outside and scare them away.
In her own words, following her role in “Wednesday”, Ricci admitted that she didn’t truly feel like a celebrity, and she found it unsettling during the initial stages of her career. She likened this period to a challenging journey she needed to navigate.
She reminisced about a mental game she played where she imagined her father as a beloved doctor in the town. She put on an act, saying things like, “I’m Dr. Ricci’s daughter,” which made people treat her kindly, not because she was famous, but because they genuinely cared for her well-being. This charade worked effectively.
