Y: Marshals Trailer Hints At Monica Dutton’s Fate

The official trailer for the new show Y: Marshals suggests what happened to Monica Dutton (played by Kelsey Asbille). Created by Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser, and Spencer Hudnut, Y: Marshals continues the story of Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) after the end of Yellowstone. The show reveals what happened after Kayce sold the Dutton Ranch and moved to East Camp with Monica and their son, Tate (Brecken Merrill).

Kayce Dutton was Yellowstone‘s reluctant action hero, but Y: Marshals plunges the youngest son of the late John Dutton III (Kevin Costner) back into action. Kayce is recruited into the U.S. Marshals to take on the dangerous “gangs, cartels, and race warriors” plaguing the peace of “God’s country,” Montana.

Joining Tate Dutton, the new CBS series Y: Marshals will feature returning stars from Yellowstone – Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty as Mo – who will accompany Kayce on his thrilling new missions.

There’s a possible explanation for why Kelsey Asbille wasn’t included in the cast list for Y: Marshal as Monica Dutton.

Y: Marshal’s Trailer May Have Confirmed Monica Dutton Is Dead

The official trailer for season five of Yellowstone opens with Kayce Dutton reflecting on his struggles to escape the burdens of the Yellowstone ranch. As he walks up a hill to a gravesite, he shares that he’s lost friends, family, and even siblings. Interestingly, the grave he’s kneeling beside appears to be newly dug, leading many to believe it could be the final resting place of Monica Dutton.

Even though Kayce and Beth Dutton sold the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch to the Broken Rock reservation, the family cemetery remains on the property. Kayce is currently staying in a trailer that resembles the East Camp set from the show Y: Marshal. While he doesn’t mention his wife, Monica, in his voiceover, this might be a hint that she has passed away.

In season four of Y: Marshals, Kayce will be joined by new characters, including U.S. Marshals Belle Skinner, played by Arielle Kebbel, and Andrea Cruz, played by Ash Santos, as he continues his dangerous missions.

Because Kayce is starring in a new show on a different network, the writers may have decided to give him a new romantic partner. It’s possible this was done to move past the difficulties in his marriage with Monica, and Y: Marshals might have been the reason for that decision.

Kayce’s Yellowstone Story Takes A Dark Turn Without Monica

Kayce is the most skilled fighter in the current generation of the Dutton family. He’s a former Navy SEAL and served as Livestock Commissioner while the events of Yellowstone unfolded. Though he’s been involved in many violent conflicts and has defended his family by force, Kayce deeply dislikes violence and consistently seeks ways to avoid it.

Monica, Kayce, and Tate moved to East Camp hoping for a quiet life. They believed selling the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch would end the violence Kayce had been forced to commit to protect their land. But if Monica is gone, Kayce’s dream of peace and a happy family life will be shattered.

The show Y: Marshals realizes that removing Monica from Kayce’s life will make it simpler to have him return to active duty. Whether Monica is truly gone or has simply left, the fact that Kelsey Asbille’s character isn’t a main cast member allows Kayce to refocus on being an action hero.

While it seems clear that Monica Dutton will die, the show Y: Marshals could still surprise us with a new detail or reveal. However, based on what we’ve seen, it’s most probable that Monica does die, and Kayce will return to his work as a U.S. Marshal partly as a way to cope with the grief and isolation of losing her.
