The latest addition to Xiaomi’s Hyper OS environment for the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 is their new technology known as the WinPlay engine. This engine enables the tablet to run Windows games offline, and it also supports external devices such as controllers, keyboards, and microphones, enhancing your gaming experience.

Xiaomi has started inviting users of the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 in China for an internal beta test via their Community platform. As per Mr. Zhang Guoquan, the head of Xiaomi’s Mobile System Software Department, the Xiaomi WinPlay engine employs sophisticated three-layer virtualization technology. Additionally, it is compatible with the Steam platform, allowing for seamless automatic game downloads and installations.

According to the data comparison, when Xiaomi WinPlay engine was virtualized on the Xiaomi Tablet 6S Pro 12.4, the GPU performance decreased by just 2.9%. Remarkably, the translation efficiency was outstanding.

This new development enables Xiaomi tablets to play Windows games directly, offering outstanding speed and reliability. Additionally, this functionality also accommodates Bluetooth compatibility for diverse gaming accessories such as controllers, keyboards, and mice. Contrary to speculation, there’s no need for the Cloud in this scenario.

The Xiaoi WinPlay engine is at the moment in its beta phase, with no imminent plans for a formal release. Right now, it works exclusively with the Xiaomi Tablet 6S Pro 12.4. But, the developers have shared instructions to play Windows games on your tablet:

  • First, purchase a game from the Steam or GOG Platform.
  • Next, copy the game directory folder to the /WinPlayMobile directory on your tablet, after installing the game on your PC.
  • Launch WinPlay by opening the AI Treasure Box on your tablet.
  • Now enter WinPlay, and follow the prompts to start enjoying your favorite game.

I’m genuinely thrilled about this progression, particularly as new ecosystems are popping up in the market. Since I’m not a fan of Apple’s ecosystem, this development offers me optimism for an improved option, although it’s still early days to make any definitive statements. It also motivates other brands to focus on their own ecosystems, which is beneficial for innovation and competition.
