In October 2022, Microsoft unveiled intentions for a Game Store on mobile devices, with the goal of competing against Google and Apple’s market dominance. In December of the previous year, Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox, confirmed this development, stating that he had been discussing plans with potential partners to launch Microsoft’s own mobile application store.

From a “gamer’s perspective,” his action is consistent with the EU’s Digital Markets Act, enabling tech firms to avoid paying Apple and Google’s fees. The ongoing dispute between Epic and Apple over the 30% fee further emphasizes the significance of Microsoft’s strategy.

In line with Bond’s statement, the intention is to initially debut the service on the web so that it can be accessed from any device and location.
