Xbox finally adds a proper Store to its mobile app which lets you browse games and wishlist them

Story Highlights

  • Xbox adds a real store section to its mobile app for the first time.
  • The app now lets you browse games, add-ons and finally create a wishlist.
  • Rollout looks region based with latest version differences across devices.

Microsoft is gradually rolling out a much-requested feature: a complete store within the Xbox mobile app. This finally gives Xbox a fully functional marketplace on your phone, allowing you to easily browse and save games you’re interested in.

The Xbox mobile app wasn’t very helpful for browsing and buying games. While you could purchase titles for your console, it didn’t really feel like a proper store experience. This recent update has significantly improved how easy the app is to use.

Xbox mobile store rollout seems to follow a region-based system for now

It looks like the app is getting a redesigned bottom navigation bar with a dedicated Store icon, and the search function is moving to the top of the screen. However, this update doesn’t seem to be available to all users yet. I still see the older version of the app on my device, and the Store icon hasn’t appeared for me.

It seems the new update is being released in stages, starting with version 2512.1.2. Most users are still on the previous version, 2511.1.3, which the app currently lists as the newest one. This suggests it’s being rolled out to different regions gradually, rather than being available worldwide all at once.

As a huge Xbox fan, I’m really seeing how Microsoft is trying to make Xbox more than just the console we know and love. They’ve been working on their own mobile gaming store for a couple of years now, and we were all expecting it to launch in July 2024. Unfortunately, it got delayed, and they said they needed to do some extra market research before releasing it. It’s a bit frustrating, but hopefully, it means they’ll launch with an even better experience!

Android users may already see the new Store tab in the Xbox mobile app. iOS users will likely have to wait a little longer. However, it’s great to see Xbox finally launching a mobile app store, and it seems like a positive step forward.
