According to Xbox Gaming head Phil Spencer, the brand is undergoing a transformation, with blockbuster titles like Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle no longer bound by an “exclusivity period”. Instead, Microsoft aims to distribute these games across multiple platforms in their release strategy.
Spencer clarified in his conversation with journalist Destin Legarie (as reported by Eurogamer), “I see no need to erect a barrier around any of our games and declare certain territories off-limits for them. Instead, our aim is to make sure our games are accessible.
Spencer emphasized once more that Game Pass is a significant aspect of Xbox, however, restricting games exclusively to other platforms isn’t a strategy we pursue; it doesn’t align with our goals. He explained that this uniqueness is key to our identity. This stance is part of the Xbox brand adapting and growing in response to industry changes, and dealing with the business complications these shifts present.
In contrast to other systems which only operate on a single device like PC, mobile, or console, we aim to make Xbox a versatile platform that empowers creators across various screens where users prefer to play. Essentially, our goal is to ensure your Xbox games are accessible from multiple locations, representing an advancement in our identity as a company. I think this adaptable approach is crucial for the gaming industry.
There’s been a lot of talk about it, but it seems that additional Xbox games might be coming to both the PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This chatter has been amplified by Spencer’s repeated discussions about Xbox’s multi-platform approach over time. Next on the list is “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” which is set to release on the PS5 soon.
