X-Men: Marvel’s New Phoenix Force Host Is Not Who You’re Expecting

A new era, the Age of Revelation, has arrived in the Marvel Universe. This X-Men event is set in a bleak future and hints at significant changes ahead. One major development revolves around the Phoenix Force and the surprising new individual who is now channeling its power, with Jean Grey no longer the host.

For the past year, the X-Men comics have been leading up to the ‘Age of Revelation,’ with Doug ‘Cypher’ Ramsey becoming the successor to Apocalypse. Now known as Revelation, Ramsey intends to use his newfound abilities to create a more ideal world. This will seemingly involve him controlling half of the United States to establish a Mutant Utopia. It also appears that the Phoenix Force will be taken over by a hero who is both well-known and surprisingly unexpected.

Who is the next host of the X-Men’s Phoenix Force?

The sneak peek of Binary #1 clearly shows that Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, will transform into the Phoenix in the future. She also returns to her original costume and goes by the name Binary again – a title she used when she was with the X-Men. This shift is intended to represent the two sides of her abilities, as both the Phoenix and someone with Kree heritage.

The main cover and first five pages of Binary #1 may be viewed below.

The discovery that Captain Marvel is now the Phoenix clarifies a puzzle from X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture. When Cyclops’ mind was transferred into his future self, he lost his psychic link with Jean Grey. This implies that Jean is deceased in the future timeline. However, we still don’t know what happened to her, or how Carol Danvers became the new vessel for the Phoenix Force.

Binary #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on October 8, 2025.
