Reverend Stryker & The Purifiers
The new series, X-Men ’97, introduces Reverend Stryker – a character from the Weapon X program – and his group, the Purifiers. This extremist organization, inspired by the comics, believes it’s their holy mission to eliminate all mutants, and they immediately clash with Polaris. Given that the government let the Purifiers operate freely, it’s likely we’ll see them return in future episodes.
X-Factor’s Jet
X-Factor’s jet, resembling a red version of the X-Men’s Blackbird, is also directly inspired by the comic books.
Cooper’s Cat
Polaris gets scolded and fired from X-Factor, and during the scene, we see an orange cat with a white diamond marking on its forehead sleeping in Valerie Cooper’s office. This is a nod to Mystique’s cat from the Ultimate Universe comics, fueling theories that Cooper might actually be Mystique in disguise – a possibility fans have suspected since the beginning of X-Men ’97.

Headmistress Storm
I’m really excited to see Xavier appoint Storm as the headmistress! It makes a lot of sense, actually, because in the comics, she stepped into that role after a tough time – her divorce from Black Panther following the whole Avengers vs X-Men event. Plus, she’s led the school before, even taking over for Xavier in the X-Men: Last Stand movie, so she definitely has the experience.
First Class
It was really touching coming back to the Xavier Institute after leaving X-Factor. When I was settling back into my old room, I noticed some photos from the school’s very beginning. One picture especially caught my eye – it was of the original class, and there we all were: Professor Xavier, Scott, Jean, Beast, Angel, Iceman… and me! It brought back a lot of memories.
Mister Fantastic
During a conversation between Polaris and Xavier about her father and the recent death of Magneto, a playful scene unfolds in the background. Morph is shown shapeshifting into Mister Fantastic, extending his arms to playfully use as jump ropes with other students. After previously becoming The Thing, viewers are left to wonder if Morph will complete the Fantastic Four by transforming into the Human Torch or Invisible Woman.
“A Piece Of Magnus Inside”
Xavier tells Polaris he was hoping some part of Magneto’s consciousness remained connected to him after their mental link in the first season of X-Men ’97, but he couldn’t detect anything. By the end of the episode, however, both Xavier and Polaris realize they can feel Magneto’s presence. This is concerning, as it suggests a potential path towards the creation of Onslaught – a very powerful mutant formed when Xavier and Magneto’s minds combine.
