X-Men ’97 Season 2 Confirmed to Include 15 X-Men from the Fox Movies

When X-Men ’97 returns to Disney+ in Summer 2026, it will include over a dozen superheroes from the live-action X-Men movies originally featured by Fox. The first season of X-Men ’97 was a big hit for Marvel Animation, earning strong viewership and positive reviews from both critics and fans. The upcoming second season will continue the story from where Season 1 ended.

At the end of the first season, the heroes became separated – not just by distance, but also by time. Some, including Magneto and Professor X, found themselves in ancient Egypt and encountered a young Apocalypse. Meanwhile, others, like Cyclops, were sent far into the future.

Season 2 of X-Men ’97 will feature the return of beloved heroes from the first season, alongside some exciting new characters. While new to the show, many of these characters will be familiar to Marvel fans, having previously appeared in other Marvel movies, TV shows, or comics.

All 15 Fox X-Men Appearing in X-Men ’97 Season 2

Cyclops

As a huge X-Men fan, I was really excited to see Cyclops step up as the team leader in X-Men ’97 after Professor X was gone – it felt so right for his character! And I’m even more hyped for Season 2 because it looks like they’re going to explore a future storyline with him and Jean Grey, which sounds amazing. I can’t wait to see where they take it!

Cyclops is a significant character in the X-Men film series, famously played by James Marsden in several movies including X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand. He’s also appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: Apocalypse. Marsden is set to return as Cyclops in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which fans are eagerly anticipating.

Wolverine

Any X-Men project needs Wolverine, as Hugh Jackman’s performance has made him the most recognizable face of the team since 2000. While Wolverine wasn’t as central in the recent X-Men ’97 series, his return for Season 2 has been confirmed by voice actor Cal Dodd and shown in the trailer revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2025.

At the end of the first season, Wolverine lost his Adamantium and was out of the main fight. But, he’s predicted to become wilder and even more of a threat in the upcoming second season.

Hugh Jackman is widely celebrated for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men movies. It’s arguably one of the most iconic actor-character pairings ever, and the character remains popular, recently appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Let me tell you, Hugh Jackman defined Wolverine for a generation. He wasn’t just in the X-Men movies, he was the X-Men for so many of them! I’m talking about starring roles in films like X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, his own origin story X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, and the incredibly moving Logan, plus a key part in X-Men: Days of Future Past. And it wasn’t just those big roles – he popped up for fun cameos in films like X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Apocalypse, and even Deadpool 2. Seriously, the guy is Wolverine, period.

Jean Grey

The second season of X-Men ’97 will bring back Jean Grey, and voice actor Jennifer Hale has hinted at where the character’s story might go. The first season ended with Jean and Cyclops being transported far into the future, where they discovered a young version of their son, Nathan Summers. They’ll now have to find a way back to their own time. Adding to the complexity, Jennifer Hale will also be voicing Madelyne Pryor, Jean Grey’s clone.

Jean Grey was a key character in several X-Men films made by Fox. Famke Janssen played her in the first three X-Men movies and in Days of Future Past. Later, Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, took on the role of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

Storm

The ending of X-Men ’97 Season 1 left Storm’s future uncertain, but the Season 2 trailer has now confirmed she’ll be back.

Halle Berry famously played Storm in the X-Men movies, appearing in four films before Alexandra Shipp took on the role, starting with X-Men: Apocalypse and continuing in Dark Phoenix.

Rogue

Anna Paquin played Rogue, a key character in the original X-Men trilogy released by Fox in the early 2000s. She was in all three movies, and her story helped connect Wolverine to Charles Xavier’s school for mutants.

In the first season of X-Men ’97, Rogue experienced the heartbreak of losing Gambit. The season concluded with her and several other characters transported back in time to ancient Egypt, and that’s where her story will continue when Season 2 begins. While her return was anticipated after the events of Season 1, the Season 2 trailer officially confirmed Rogue’s appearance.

Professor X

Season 2 will feature a storyline set in ancient Egypt, and Professor X will be returning after being presumed dead for much of Season 1. He’ll be joining forces with some of the team to confront a younger Apocalypse. Professor X was also shown in the Season 2 trailer at Comic-Con, along with other characters.

Professor X is just as well-known as Wolverine from the Fox movies. Patrick Stewart famously played Professor X in several films, including the original trilogy, Days of Future Past, and Logan. He’s also brought the character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Plus, Stewart is confirmed to return as Charles Xavier in Avengers: Doomsday, adding to his impressive portrayal of the character.

Interestingly, James McAvoy also played Professor X when the X-Men series was restarted by Fox with the movie X-Men: First Class. He portrayed the character a total of five times.

Gambit

Though it appeared Gambit died in Season 1 of X-Men ’97, he’s set to return in Season 2. The season finale showed Apocalypse attempting to bring him back to life, hinting at his eventual return. It’s likely Gambit will reappear as one of Apocalypse’s powerful Horsemen of Death.

As a long-time fan, it’s been a bit of a winding road for Gambit on the big screen. He only showed up in one Fox movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and after that, there were plans for his own solo film starring Channing Tatum, but sadly it never happened. I was thrilled to see Tatum finally get his chance to play Gambit in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine! And the best part? He’s going to be back for Avengers: Doomsday too, which is fantastic news for any Gambit fan like me.

Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler didn’t appear until about halfway through the first season of X-Men ’97. The season ended with him stranded in 3,000 B.C. alongside Rogue, Professor X, and Magneto, and that’s where his story will pick up in Season 2. He was shown in the Season 2 trailer, suggesting he’ll be a regular member of the X-Men from now on.

Nightcrawler appeared in only one X-Men film, X2, where he was played by Alan Cumming. Despite his brief appearance, the character was very memorable. Interestingly, Alan Cumming is returning to play Nightcrawler in Avengers: Doomsday.

Bishop

Bishop’s power to manipulate time will be crucial in X-Men ’97 Season 2, as many X-Men are currently scattered across different eras. The recent Comic-Con trailer showed Bishop stating the team needs to return the X-Men to the 1990s, strongly suggesting he’ll be leading the effort to bring everyone back to the present.

Bishop has been an important part of the X-Men ’97 series, and he’s expected to play an even bigger role in Season 2. While he previously appeared in the X-Men movie Days of Future Past – played by Omar Sy – that was his only appearance in the film franchise.

Beast

In Season 1 of X-Men ’97, Beast found himself stranded in ancient Egypt, and the trailer for Season 2 shows he’s still there when the new season begins.

Although Beast is a significant character in the X-Men universe, he wasn’t prominently featured in many of the Fox films. He made a brief appearance in X2, but it wasn’t until Kelsey Grammer took on the role in X-Men: The Last Stand that he really became a central figure. Later, Nicholas Hoult, known for his role in Superman, played a younger version of Beast in X-Men: First Class.

Brian Tyree Henry reprised his role as Beast in Marvel Studios’ The Marvels. He’s also set to appear in the next Avengers: Doomsday movie.

Colossus

The official trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2, revealed at Comic-Con, confirmed that Colossus will appear. While his exact role wasn’t shown, he’s expected to team up with Bishop to help the X-Men return to the present and come back together.

As a longtime fan of these superhero films, I’ve seen Colossus pop up quite a bit over the years. Most of us first met him in the original X-Men trilogy, brilliantly brought to life by Daniel Cudmore. But the character’s journey didn’t stop there – he made fun cameos in the Deadpool movies, and now, incredibly, he’s joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine! It’s exciting to see a character with such a history seamlessly transition into this new phase.

Psylocke

The trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2 revealed that the character Psylocke will appear, making her return to the series after being absent since the original animated show in the 1990s.

Psylocke is a popular character with X-Men fans, but she hasn’t appeared much in movies. Her only live-action role was in X-Men: The Last Stand, played by Olivia Munn, where she was part of a team called the Omegas. Unfortunately, she didn’t have a significant role or much character development. Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is introducing mutants and the X-Men, there’s a good chance she’ll get a more substantial adaptation.

Archangel

The trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2 revealed that Archangel will be joining the team. Once known as Angel (Warren Worthington III), he was turned into a metal-winged being – a Horseman of Death – by the villain Apocalypse.

The character appeared in the films X-Men: The Last Stand (played by Ben Foster) and X-Men: Apocalypse (played by Ben Hardy).

Multiple Man

While it’s not yet official who he’s supporting, Multiple Man was shown in the trailer for the new season of X-Men ’97. He was also in one episode of the original animated show.

The character Multiple Man, portrayed by Eric Dane, appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand. The movie established his abilities by showing him robbing seven banks at the same time, immediately demonstrating the nature of his powers to viewers.

Havok

Havok is Cyclops’s brother and appeared in a couple of episodes of the original X-Men cartoon. As a member of X-Force, he’s expected to team up with Bishop in an effort to restore the X-Men to their proper place in time.

Lucas Till played Havok and appeared in several of the newer X-Men films, including X-Men: First Class, Days of Future Past, and X-Men: Apocalypse.

BONUS: Kid Omega

The trailer for the new season also showed Kid Omega, marking his debut in a Marvel animated series. He wasn’t included in the original show, so this is the first time viewers will see him in animated form.

The character did make a quick appearance in Dark Phoenix. He was glimpsed running through the halls of the X-Mansion.

BONUS: Wolfsbane

As a longtime X-Men fan, I was excited to catch a glimpse of Wolfsbane in the X-Men ’97 Season 2 trailer. She’s a character with a history in X-Factor, and that quick shot definitely signals she’ll be involved in the new season’s storyline. It’s great to see them bringing in characters with that kind of background!

As a big movie fan, I remember Maisie Williams playing Wolfsbane in The New Mutants back in 2020. It was a shame, really, because the film didn’t do so well in theaters. The pandemic definitely hurt it, but honestly, it didn’t get much love from critics or audiences either. It just didn’t quite click, you know?
