Joe McElderry has hit back at body-shaming trolls with a shirtless selfie.
The 34-year-old winner of The X Factor posted a photo and encouraged his fans to ignore negative comments about his appearance, telling them not to let online bullies get to them.
He shared that someone commented he looks ‘like a house end’ – which, for those unfamiliar with Northern slang, is an insult meaning he’s overweight. He found the comment amusing.
‘Honestly, social media is wild isn’t it?! The things people think they can say about other people.
I did what anyone in my shoes would do: I put on my favorite sparkly pants, ignored the negativity, and finished a nearly sold-out tour! It was amazing!
It’s easy to get used to negativity online, but it’s important to remember that being unkind or hurtful isn’t normal behavior. Don’t let online bullies affect your mood!

Fans flooded the comments to praise the star’s empowering message.
Someone commented, ‘Great job, Joe! It’s shocking how many people think it’s acceptable to be rude online. By the way, you look amazing and I love your confidence! Keep being you!’
That comment was probably more about the person saying it than about you – people often make remarks like that out of jealousy. You handled it perfectly! 😘 xx
That was a perfect reply, Joe! You look amazing – maybe that person needs to get their eyes checked! They can only wish for a little bit of the love you receive. It’s clear they’re just jealous, and it’s really sad. ❤️❤️❤️
Joe became famous on the show X Factor in 2009 at the age of 18, winning the competition against Stacey Solomon and Olly Murs.
Joe looks much different now than he did as a young teenager when he first won the competition singing Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb.”
To prepare for the 2017 production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the singer worked with fitness trainer and former Miss Universe contestant Caroline Dixon and adhered to a very disciplined eating plan.
He previously told Fabulous magazine that while much of his work is intense, he actually finds it enjoyable.

He added: ‘I’m a really active person and I’ve done lots of charity bike rides.’
It’s a huge part of what I do, and I really need it to keep my energy up when I’m performing.
Joe also reminisced about his time on the show which catapulted him to fame.
He said: ‘Every time I see that clip, I feel so old, I look so young on there!’,
After winning The X Factor, Joe’s first single, a cover of Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb,” quickly reached the top of the UK charts.
The talent show star boasts a discography of five albums, all making the top 20.
