WWE’s Shocking Releases of R-Truth and Carlito Could Signal Major Change in the Company’s Future
Once more, roster reductions are underway at the WWE headquarters, and it’s now confirmed that two superstars likely won’t be participating in any upcoming WWE events, unless there’s a sudden change of heart. This weekend saw the announcement of departures that have left both company insiders and fans disheartened. R-Truth and Carlito are no longer part of the WWE, and this news comes as quite a surprise within the wrestling world in 2025.
Even though there weren’t any significant rivalries or exciting matches between the athletes that you can rewatch with Peacock Premium, they both embody aspects of WWE that I admire, such as its humor. However, I’m concerned about potential changes within the company that might alter the storytelling in a manner I wouldn’t favor.
R-Truth And Carlito Both Announced Their Releases From The WWE
Initial reports about R-Truth’s departure emerged when the entertainer himself (whose real name is Ron Killings) posted on social media platform X that he had been released. Renowned for his successful stint as part of the Awesome Truth tag team and for adding humor to professional wrestling, R-Truth shared this message with his fans:
It’s regretful news I have to share: I’ve just been let go by WWE. I want to express my gratitude to WWE for this incredible journey, but what I appreciate the most is each one of YOU who joined me on this ride. Thank you for the love, support, and admiration you’ve shown me throughout the years. I’m truly grateful 🙏🏾 June 1, 2025.
At least we got to witness R-Truth battle against John Cena before his retirement, which is something, even though it’s disappointing to see a 17-year company veteran depart without much recognition. Here’s hoping that if he’s still passionate about pro wrestling, he can find a suitable platform elsewhere.
Though Carlito hasn’t spent much time here compared to others, I’m just as affected by his decision to leave, given that we’ll likely lose a team member soon. This is how he announced his departure:
It’s clear that his ability to find humor in the situation suggests he might not have been deeply affected by getting let go. However, it’s important to remember that losing a position with the WWE is always tough on any superstar, so it’s hard to tell exactly how he feels about it.
The WWE Releasing Two Of Its Funniest Wrestlers Has Me Concerned Things Will Get Too Serious
Watching R-Truth and Carlito leave WWE was quite a surprise, and it has me questioning if there might be a change in tone coming to WWE television. Removing two of the funniest wrestlers on the main roster in one day gives the impression that the company could be moving away from the comedic storylines that propelled both their careers in recent times. I can’t help but wonder if this signals a more serious approach to storytelling in the future for WWE.

If that’s true, I must admit I haven’t jumped aboard that particular trend yet. It’s crucial for professional wrestling to inject some humor occasionally to emphasize its inherent absurdity and the fact that everyone involved is well aware of the dramatic elements. Without the presence of comedic wrestlers, we’re stuck with an endless parade of superstars shouting and flexing, pretending to be angry, which becomes monotonous. The pool of talent diminishes when not every athlete can excel in the rough-and-tumble style without losing their edge.
More On The WWE

Circulating are unexpected remarks from Roman Reigns regarding his WWE future, yet I believe the interpretation being drawn may not align with reality.
I’ve advocated for athletes such as Bronson Reed who challenge the typical physique stereotypes in professional wrestling. Removing comedic wrestlers reduces WWE’s opportunities to provide distinctive moments during events, and I worry there will be a lack of performers to replace those like Carlito and R-Truth in this niche.
There are still comedic wrestlers in the WWE, such as Alpha Academy and Pretty Deadly who manage to incorporate humor into their act without compromising their tag-team status. However, neither team is currently holding a high rank within the company, which could potentially lead to their release. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they won’t be let go, but I’ll definitely be watching for any upcoming releases in the near future.
Every Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET, you can catch “Monday Night Raw” streaming on Netflix, while “SmackDown” airs on USA every Friday at the same time. Here’s wishing R-Truth and Carlito a successful journey into the future; I eagerly anticipate their upcoming achievements!
