WWE will not re-sign Kevin Owens
As a seasoned gamer of professional wrestling spanning over two decades, I’ve had the pleasure (and occasional pain) of watching Kevin Owens weave his magic within the squared circle. His talent is undeniable; he’s a master storyteller, a captivating performer, and a true testament to the art of sports entertainment.
There’s been growing speculation about the potential future of wrestler Kevin Owens. It was revealed that his contract with WWE has not been renewed, and it will expire in December. If he becomes a free agent next year, as seems likely, the story of free agency in wrestling could continue to be a major headline. The main question now is whether WWE should make an effort to re-sign him, and at this point, the answer appears to be no.
Kevin Owens is exceptionally skilled in wrestling and sports entertainment, consistently ranking among the top performers in the industry. His popularity with fans predates his joining WWE in 2015, a testament to his talent. Over time, his impressive career accomplishments have solidified him as one of the greatest wrestlers of this era, a fact that’s hard to dispute.
The main question that arises when considering if the company should keep Owens is his position within WWE’s overall roster hierarchy. Despite his exceptional talent and contributions to the company, it doesn’t seem like WWE is ready to place him at the top of SmackDown or Monday Night Raw. Instead, he consistently falls just below the elite tier of the roster, which seems to reflect more where WWE values him rather than a reflection of his skills.
Owens can do anything that any other person in wrestling can do. Can he tell a great story within the ring? Yes. Does he have the ability to cut a fantastic promo? Yes. Can he do everything from comedy to being a sadistic heel? The answer is also yes. There isn’t anything that Owens can’t do with professional wrestling and sports entertainment. Still, that hasn’t stopped WWE from relegating him to a level below individuals like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and CM Punk. As individuals like Bron Breakker and Gunther push their way into the main event, it’s hard to see WWE placing Owens over them. In fact, they’ll probably use his star power to elevate them along the way. Being in that position may make it harder for Owens when it comes to demanding a contract that he desires. This makes it much more likely that WWE will allow him to walk if negotiations don’t completely go the way they’d like.
At present, Kevin Owens is set for the main event at WWE Bash in Berlin, where he’ll face off against Cody Rhodes. Rhodes is heavily favored in this bout and is anticipated to leave with the title, marking another instance where Owens might miss out on becoming champion. Whether fans should interpret this as a sign that his contract will expire soon is a possibility. However, only time will reveal if WWE makes a determined effort to retain Owens within their roster.
