WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 must have at least one elimination match

As a seasoned WWE fan with decades of memories etched into my mind like a well-worn wrestling mat, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when I think about the traditional Survivor Series elimination matches. I remember the thrill of those days, the anticipation building up as each superstar fell one by one, until the lone survivor stood tall. Those were the moments that defined our favorites, the matches that made heroes out of underdogs and villains out of champions.

As the date of November 30th for WWE Survivor Series: WarGames approaches, it seems that the two WarGames contests have been decided. The Bloodline Civil War and the rematch between Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan are set to take place, which promises excitement. However, let’s not forget about including traditional five-on-five matches as well, as excluding them again could be a missed opportunity.

2021’s Survivor Series was the last time the PLE presented five-on-five elimination matches, a format that by then, fans were weary of due to the “Brand Supremacy” concept which held little significance in the larger picture. The days when these matches had any real stakes or compelling storylines seemed like a distant memory. It was clear that something needed to evolve.

2022 saw a surge of anticipation among fans as WarGames made its return. The unique twist to the match had everyone buzzing ahead of the grand spectacle. As we approach the third installment in 2024, the initial excitement seems to be fading slightly. It’s understandable that The Bloodline angle has reached this climax, given it revolves around two factions battling from the same roots.

In addition, an intriguing prospect for a classic elimination-style bout presents itself. Forget looking elsewhere regarding the ongoing feud between The Wyatt Sicks and The Miz/Final Testament. This clash is an ideal scenario for including at least one elimination match on the roster. This fight would elevate one of the more beloved acts, The Wyatts, while progressing their narrative about exacting revenge against The Miz and Final Testament. Moreover, it serves as another opportunity to stir anticipation for The Final Testament, a group that has yet to secure any significant momentum.

The elimination-style contests were effective methods to generate excitement for performers. Similar to how Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton, and Bianca Belair have been showcased as solo survivors throughout the years, there are numerous main roster artists who could benefit from similar attention-grabbing moments. Consider introducing a talent like Oba Femi in a scenario where he overwhelms an opposing team, or someone like Bron Breakker on a rampage against his adversaries. Such dramatic instances are ones fans won’t forget, but they’re becoming less common now that these types of matches are not as prevalent anymore.

The innovative approach taken by WWE’s leadership in recent times is doing an excellent job of implementing changes when necessary, but this doesn’t mean they should discard everything from the past. There’s still a valid spot for traditional elimination-style matches during Survivor Series, and here’s to hoping that 2024 will feature at least one such match.
