WWE SummerSlam 2024 Predictions: Roman Reigns Will SCREW Solo Sikoa

WWE SummerSlam 2024 Predictions: Roman Reigns Will SCREW Solo Sikoa

As a seasoned wrestling aficionado who’s been around the ring for more years than I care to remember, I can see the potential in both Form and Priest. Form showed us a fierce IC Title run, but Priest is still finding his footing as a world champion. A loss here might just be what he needs to truly connect with the fans and establish that babyface turn. And let’s not forget the intrigue surrounding Finn Balor and Judgment Day – I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some betrayal soon.

As a long-time WWE fan with over two decades of fandom under my belt, I am thrilled to see that WWE SummerSlam 2024 is just around the corner! The anticipation for this year’s event in Cleveland, Ohio has been building since the announcement, and I can hardly contain my excitement.

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre [Personal Rivalry: Special Guest Ref: Seth Rollins]

In the world of professional wrestling this summer, a feud between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk stands out as unrivaled and undeniably captivating. If anyone crosses the Chicago Bull (CM Punk), they will face repercussions, as evidenced when McIntyre injured Punk with the Future Shock DDT at the Royal Rumble this year and even wished for it. In retaliation for McIntyre’s actions, Punk has sabotaged his World Title opportunities on four separate occasions:

In WrestleMania 40, CM Punk tricked Drew McIntyre by using his arm cast to strike him, which opened the door for Damian Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and seize the title within just five minutes. The following episode of Raw saw Punk again deceive McIntyre during a number one contender’s match by grabbing his foot, enabling Jey Uso to secure a championship opportunity at Backlash. At Clash at the Castle 2024, CM Punk undermined McIntyre’s chances of winning the World Title in Glasgow, Scotland by disguising himself as the referee. In the Money in the Bank event of 2024, Punk once more betrayed McIntyre by sabotaging his cash-in attempt.

It could be contended that Drew McIntyre should emerge victorious to settle the score for all instances when Punk allegedly wronged McIntyre. However, the actual narrative doesn’t revolve around that. CM Punk is poised to win this bout as he seeks his ultimate retribution. This is due to McIntyre inadvertently causing him to miss a potential WrestleMania main event owing to an injury at the Rumble. Moreover, Punk desires revenge for McIntyre taking away his cherished bracelet that bears AJ Lee and Larry’s names. The stakes have become deeply personal for Punk, and he will spare no compassion when confronting McIntyre at SummerSlam.

At SummerSlam on August 3, 1997, a match will echo the intensity of Bret Hart versus The Undertaker with Shawn Michaels acting as the special referee. Shawn Michaels had personal issues with both Hart and The Undertaker. In this incident, Hart disrespected HBK by spitting in his face, HBK retaliated by swinging a chair at Hart, but Hart dodged the attack causing HBK to hit The Undertaker instead. Taking advantage of the situation, Hart pinned The Undertaker and secured the victory, as HBK reluctantly counted the three-count. In this current scenario, Punk is similar to his idol Bret Hart, McIntyre represents The Undertaker who faces injustice, while Rollins mirrors Shawn Michaels, the special guest referee.

In a similar vein to Hart’s victory 27 years back, Punk is expected to emerge victorious, given that this will be his initial singles match since rejoining the WWE. Furthermore, Punk has experienced an unfortunate string of losses in Cleveland – departing from the WWE, losing his first UFC fight, and losing his inaugural AEW World Title there. It’s high time for that streak to break.

Bayley (c) vs. Queen Nia [WWE Women’s Title]

Queen Nia is poised to replace Bayley as queen due to her triumph in QOTR needing reinforcement. From the moment she debuted on SmackDown following the draft, she’s been laying the groundwork for dethroning Bayley, even resorting to a brutal attack to make an impact. Although Bayley had a determined quest for the title en route to Mania, her reign has ultimately fallen flat. With Bayley’s reign concluded, Queen Nia stands a chance to claim the title and face formidable opponents like Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, with whom she still harbors unresolved conflicts.

As a gamer putting on my analyst cap, I can see a strong argument for Tiffany Stratton, the princess to Queen Nia, potentially cashing in her Money in the Bank (MITB) contract to claim the title. However, it feels like a misdirect, considering it’s still early days in Tiffany’s main roster journey and winning the world title so soon might be a stretch.

Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight [U.S. Title]

LA Knight stands out as a case of someone who’s more famous for his catchy phrases resembling memes than his wrestling skills or long-term narrative development in the WWE. Truth be told, Knight remains popular among the WWE audience, but he seems to have lost some momentum recently. Despite defeating AJ Styles at Mania, WWE has yet to leverage that win with a title challenge. It’s evident that WWE missed an opportunity by not acting swiftly when Knight was hot, and the U.S. Title could be his chance to rebuild that momentum, particularly since Logan Paul is a questionable champion in this context.

Although Logan Paul resides in Cleveland, it’s evident that a part-time mid-card titleholder wouldn’t work well within the WWE due to infrequent title defenses and limited appearances. Despite his considerable social media influence as an influencer, it seems that Logan Paul’s title reign has grown stale and reached its end in 2024. Conversely, boosting LA Knight as a mid-card champion could maximize his popularity. It would be intriguing to witness him demonstrate his skills as the U.S. Champion within WWE, potentially leading to a future world championship contention.

Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker [IC Title]

Sami Zayn will keep his Intercontinental Championship against Bron Breakker, as it’s still premature in Bron’s main roster journey to claim the IC title. This year, Zayn missed out on being part of the MITB Ladder Match due to holding the IC Title, a championship he’d grown beyond some time ago. Since MITB has passed, it wouldn’t be right for Zayn to lose the IC Title now. He’s told many captivating stories with his opponents, particularly Chad Gable, and he feels like the main event star on Monday Night Raw.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t stress enough that it was none other than Sami Zayn who toppled Gunther at Mania 40, ending his over 600-day title reign. It would be unwise bookmaking to have a future main event contender like Zayn lose the title so swiftly to a fresh NXT recruit after such an unprecedented achievement. Ilja Dragunov is deeply entangled in this rivalry, and to shield Breakker during his loss, Dragunov might intervene, leading to a triple threat match at Bash in Berlin by month’s end. The fans in Berlin would eagerly anticipate Dragunov’s performance, and an IC Title opportunity would be fitting for him.

Damian Priest (c) vs. King Gunther [World Heavyweight Title]

King Gunther plans to replace Damian Priest as the World Champion at Bash in Berlin, as he aims to reinforce his Kingdom of Tortuga (KOTR) victory. This storyline has stirred up some controversy due to Gunther’s derogatory comment towards Damian Priest. However, from a narrative perspective, Gunther has demonstrated potential as a world champion, with his impressive Intercontinental Title run concluding at WrestleMania 40. On the other hand, Damian Priest is yet to establish himself as a captivating world champion four months into his reign that started at WrestleMania 40.

It’s often been said that Damian Priest’s title reign is seen as a temporary phase by many WWE fans because they haven’t yet formed a strong emotional bond with him. Some believe he might win this match to establish his role as a hero (babyface), but losing could help him gain sympathy from the audience instead. It seems inevitable that Finn Balor will eventually turn against Damian Priest, hinted at after WrestleMania when Priest refused to team up with Balor for the tag team titles.

Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley [World Women’s Title]

In April 2022, Liv Morgan managed to pin Rhea Ripley during a brief alliance with Finn Balor and AJ Styles against the original Judgment Day (Edge and Damian Priest). This feud stemmed from when Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley parted ways after becoming tag team champions two years prior. Following their split, Rhea viciously assaulted Liv with a steel chair. Since that incident, Liv had been eager for revenge, and she finally got it by defeating Rhea following WrestleMania 40.

In this scenario, Liv Morgan is expected to keep the title due to her determination to strip Rhea Ripley of everything, including the championship belt and Judgment Day, particularly Dirty Dom. Although Balor has been found with Liv’s hotel keys and there have been signs suggesting his involvement with Morgan, it is primarily Dom who stands under suspicion. This is because he has been spotted with Liv in a behind-the-scenes segment almost every week. It appears that Dom rebuilt Ripley’s trust recently only to mislead her, but his true intentions will be exposed when he aids Liv in retaining the title by betraying Ripley one final time.

Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa [WWE Title]

Despite Cody Rhodes’ best efforts, he can’t seem to break free from the Bloodline’s grasp. With Roman Reigns and The Rock no longer on WWE television, Solo Sikoa has stepped up as their representative. Sikoa believes that Reigns has let down the Bloodline, and his loss at WrestleMania 40 should have repercussions. He even told Paul Heyman that he is the true Tribal Chief now. However, Reigns won’t let Solo Sikoa disrespect him from the comfort of his couch. Instead, Reigns will make a babyface comeback and get revenge on Solo Sikoa in their upcoming match as payback for his recent actions and words.

In his current situation, Cody can only rely on Roman Reigns, his longtime adversary, for assistance. This predicament might spark a Bloodline Civil War at Survivor Series, as Cody’s storyline heads towards WrestleMania. However, it doesn’t mean that Cody will completely part ways with The Bloodline after SummerSlam; he still has pending matters to settle with The Rock, who pinned him on the first night of WrestleMania and later presented him a gift on Raw post-WrestleMania. It’s possible that The Rock is orchestrating things from behind the scenes within The Bloodline, and we might find out about it quite soon.
