WWE needs to do another draft before RAW and SmackDown move to new networks

As a seasoned gamer who’s been through countless WWE storylines and drafts, I can confidently say that this upcoming one seems to hold a promising future for both RAW and SmackDown. The old-school approach of having RAW as the flagship show with most of the top stars while SmackDown serves as the land of opportunity feels like a breath of fresh air.

As a longtime fan of WWE and someone who grew up watching RAW and SmackDown every week, I must say that this year’s draft has me excited for what’s to come. With RAW moving to Netflix in 2025 and SmackDown remaining on USA Network, the pressure is on WWE to assemble a roster that can capitalize on the marketing potential of each platform.

Normally, the number of main event stars on RAW and SmackDown is roughly the same. This time, though, it might be beneficial for WWE to revert to an older strategy when managing their brands. RAW could feature most of the top stars, while SmackDown could return to its original role as a platform for opportunities. Although there will still be rivalries between both shows, WWE should resolve any feuds that involve participants in the Bad Blood Premium Live Event, as it’s not scheduled until October. Once this is done, then the new draft can officially commence.

The WWE doesn’t necessarily need a drastic shakeup with this draft. A slight adjustment might be more suitable. From the SmackDown roster, some standout wrestlers who could benefit from moving to RAW include Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, LA Knight, AJ Styles, Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, and Nia Jax. Despite Cody Rhodes being the Undisputed WWE Champion, it would be advantageous for that title to reside on RAW, as the main title should ideally belong to the flagship show. This move would provide Cody with opportunities to engage in feuds with top RAW stars like Seth Rollins, CM Punk, and Drew McIntyre.

Currently, LA Knight holds the WWE United States Championship, but he could potentially swap titles with Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker if the WWE decides to make such a trade. Similarly, both Nia Jax (current WWE Champion) and the woman holding the Women’s World Championship by October may be involved in a champion exchange. Fingers crossed that Rhea Ripley will claim the Women’s World Title before then, as she would make an excellent top female babyface for SmackDown and help strengthen the blue brand.

To enhance the star power on SmackDown, it would be beneficial to bring in key players like Gunther (the World Heavyweight Champion), Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, Sheamus, Braun Strowman, Bronson Reed, The Miz, Ludwig Kaiser, The Wyatt Sicks, Alpha Academy, and Chad Gable with his American Made group. With RAW already boasting several main talents, it’s a good idea for SmackDown to acquire mid-carders to help them ascend to main event status. In terms of the supplemental draft picks, RAW could secure Legago Del Fantasma, The Street Profits, and Grayson Waller while SmackDown gets The New Day, Odyssey Jones, Pete Dunne, Sonya Deville, Shayna Baszler, and Zoey Stark. Jey Uso and Sami Zayn can become prominent faces on SmackDown, as Roman Reigns is currently a part-time performer off television.
