WWE needs to better protect Carmelo Hayes
On all its shows – Monday Night Raw, Friday Night SmackDown, and NXT – WWE boasts an impressive lineup of stars who shine week after week. One name that’s generating a lot of buzz among fans is Carmelo Hayes. Hayes had a protected winning streak during his time on NXT, but since moving to SmackDown, things have taken a new turn. The creative team at WWE needs to be cautious as they develop Hayes, as many viewers are eagerly watching to see how he performs as a main roster talent.
30-year-old Carmelo Hayes demonstrates exceptional skills as a WWE superstar, indicating his potential to become a central figure in WWE for years ahead. Alongside Trick Williams, he shone brightly on NXT, leading many to believe he possessed the abilities to headline WrestleMania at some point in the future. This belief turns out to be accurate; indeed, Hayes possesses the talent to live up to those expectations.
Since joining the main roster, he hasn’t had a win officially recorded as a victory. On January 17, his match against Jimmy Uso ended in a draw, similar to his match with Sami Zayn a few weeks prior. Two weeks before that, Braun Strowman beat him. Carmelo Hayes’s most recent win on television was against Strowman, which he achieved through a countout on December 13. His last pinfall victory occurred on September 27 when he defeated Andrade during their Best-of-Seven series. That was approximately four months ago.
In order for WWE Creative to maintain the belief that Hayes has the potential to be a top-tier performer, they may need to alter the way they book him. Consistently losing matches isn’t beneficial for a wrestler’s career, and it’s not a new issue in WWE – just look at how protected performers like GUNTHER, Bron Breakker, and Rhea Ripley are amidst all challenges. Hayes doesn’t require the same extent of protection right now, but securing some victories during high-profile matches could be advantageous. It appears that WWE initially planned a strong run for Hayes in the midcard, but it seems that objective has shifted.
Carmelo Hayes possesses the necessary skills to become a leading figure within professional wrestling, not only for WWE but also for other promotions. At present, however, it seems that WWE isn’t fully utilizing his talents effectively, as he currently appears much like an ordinary member on their roster. This is a situation that calls for attention and improvement in order to prevent him from falling into obscurity at this critical stage of his career.
