Oliver Grant, known as “Power” and a key associate of the Wu-Tang Clan, has passed away. He was best known for managing the group’s highly successful Wu Wear clothing brand.

The family statement remembers the man known worldwide as ‘Power,’ and affectionately as ‘Pookie,’ as a proud son of the Park Hill neighborhood in Staten Island. He went on to become a creative leader, a central figure in the Wu-Tang Clan, and an influential force in global culture. He considered it his greatest joy to share his love, knowledge, and talent with his family and community, and his influence was unique and irreplaceable.

Although not a rapper in the Wu-Tang Clan – the group featuring artists like RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and Method Man – Gary Grant played a vital behind-the-scenes role. As a childhood friend of RZA’s older brother, Mitchell “Divine” Diggs, Grant initially helped finance the group and later contributed to building their business, including managing the Wu Wear clothing line.

GZA shared on Instagram that they couldn’t have achieved their success without Grant, stating that Wu-Tang Clan wouldn’t exist as it is known today without his contributions. He described Grant’s death as a deeply felt loss for everyone involved.

The family announced that a wake for Grant will take place on March 13th, followed by his funeral in New York on March 14th.

“Power will always be loved, and his legacy will forever remain,” the tribute said.
