World’s First MoMA Bookstore Opens in Seoul

Summary

  • The world’s first MoMA Bookstore has opened in Seoul, a result of a partnership with Hyundai Card
  • The store is located in Apgujeong and features over 1,100 titles
  • It sells exclusive MoMA-published books and curated design objects

New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has launched its first-ever dedicated bookstore outside of the United States, opening its doors in Seoul, South Korea. This exciting project is the result of a 20-year partnership with Hyundai Card and further establishes Seoul as a leading center for art around the world.

I recently visited the MoMA bookstore in Apgujeong, near Dosan Park, and it’s seriously amazing! It’s a beautifully designed space packed with over 1,100 books – not just MoMA catalogs, but also cool stuff on contemporary art, photography, and design. What’s really different about this store is that it *only* sells books, which makes it a special place for anyone who loves art. They also have a selection of design objects and lifestyle goods from the MoMA Design Store – all carefully chosen to match the museum’s style. And of course, they have all the iconic MoMA merch, like New Era caps and those classic varsity sweaters, plus some limited-edition design pieces. It’s a must-visit for any art or design fan!

I’ve been following the MoMA and Hyundai Card partnership for years, and it’s amazing to see how it’s grown! It started with simple sponsorships, but now it’s a full-on cultural exchange. One of the coolest things is the “Hyundai Card MoMA Digital Wall” in Seoul – it shows the same digital art as MoMA in New York *at the same time*, which is incredible! And now, with the opening of the new bookstore, it really feels like MoMA is serious about reaching people all over the world. Seoul just seems like the perfect city for this – it’s become such a vibrant and creative hub, and this feels like a natural next step.
