With a new zombie movie on the way, the 2013 film World War Z is currently a big hit on streaming platforms. It remains the most financially successful zombie movie of all time.
As of January 14th, World War Z is the tenth most popular movie on Paramount+ worldwide, according to data from FlixPatrol. It’s closely followed by another horror film at number nine.
When World War Z came out, it was a big hit, earning over $540 million worldwide, according to The Numbers. This makes it the most successful zombie movie ever made. Viewers generally liked the film, giving it a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while critics gave it a slightly lower score of 67%.
In the movie World War Z, Brad Pitt plays a former UN investigator who quickly discovers a zombie apocalypse is unfolding while stuck in a traffic jam in Philadelphia. As the film directed by Mark Forster continues, the situation worsens as the zombie outbreak spreads rapidly through a virus transmitted by a single bite.
Gerry returns to the United Nations to assist in the search for a virus cure. The film also stars Peter Capaldi, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kerstez, James Badge Dale, David Morse, and Matthew Fox. World War Z is adapted from Max Brooks’ 2006 novel of the same name, with a screenplay by Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, and David Lindelof.
World War Z Was Originally Meant to be the Start of a Trilogy
After the big success of World War Z, many fans hoped for a sequel. However, World War Z 2 was ultimately canceled in 2019. The original 2013 film was intended to be the first in a series of three, and filming for the second movie was planned for 2019, but it didn’t happen. Instead of continuing with World War Z 2, Paramount Pictures decided to prioritize other large-scale projects, such as the Mission: Impossible films.
Not much was known about the canceled sequel’s story, but it would have featured the return of the main actor and the actress who played Gerry Lane’s wife, Karin Lane.
World War Z is streaming on Paramount+ globally and in the United States.
