World Cricket Championship 4 announces its arrival with a teaser, but its purpose depends on what you expect

Story Highlights

  • WCC4’s teaser drop is exciting, but questions arise if a sequel is necessary.
  • Banking on a blockbuster franchise, WCC3 already had set benchmarks for a top cricket experience.
  • Visuals look similar to WCC3, with player models showing almost no noticeable evolution.

Okay, so the first teaser for World Cricket Championship 4 is finally here, but honestly, it’s super short and doesn’t really show us much that’s new. As a huge fan of the WCC series on mobile, I’m a little puzzled why they’re making a WCC4 at all, and I’ve been thinking about why. I’ve got some thoughts on why it might not be necessary, and I want to share them.

Better physics, pitch-based gameplay, and realism are expected in World Cricket Championship 4

The teaser opens with an AI-powered conversation between two passengers on a flight, seemingly to highlight the tagline, “sometimes the best can get even better.” Afterwards, we see a preview of a stadium that looks good, but the graphics appear to be similar to the current ones.

I really love WCC3! I’ve completed career mode twice and think the game offers a fantastic experience on mobile. However, I’m a little unsure about the future direction of the game. While WCC3 already has great animations and cutscenes, there are still many areas that could be much better.

Let’s talk about what’s new! We’re focusing on things like more realistic ball movement, gameplay that changes based on the pitch, and technical improvements like support for 120 frames per second. We also want to add features like women’s cricket, tools for players to create their own content, reliable online matches, and a more engaging career mode.

Okay, so I just watched the teaser, and honestly, I’m a little disappointed. My biggest problem with WCC3 was that all the wrestlers looked way too similar, and it looks like that hasn’t really changed in WCC4. I get it’s hard to make everyone look unique, but they seemed kinda skinny, and I was hoping to see something really different visually – something that would make the characters stand out more. It just doesn’t seem like they’ve made a big effort to change things up.

The current timing is noteworthy. As other cricket games, like Real Cricket – which is now supported by KRAFTON India – are improving, WCC4 is facing much stronger competition than previous versions. Simply updating WCC3 and releasing it as a sequel won’t be enough to succeed.

This is just a first look, and I’m hoping the final game will be more polished. To really succeed and recapture the magic of previous games in the series, it needs significant improvements in both gameplay and visual style. Whether it can achieve that remains to be seen.
