Wonder Woman’s Future In The DC Universe Looks Bright After James Gunn’s New Post

James Gunn’s recent post about Wonder Woman is encouraging news for fans of the character and her future in the new DC Universe. While the DCU, led by Gunn and Peter Safran, is just getting started – with only Superman released so far – there’s a lot of anticipation for what they have planned.

In January 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their initial plans for the DC Universe (DCU), including movies focusing on Batman and Swamp Thing, and TV series about Green Lantern and the Amazons of Themiscyra (Wonder Woman’s home). They also cautioned that these plans weren’t set in stone and would change based on which projects were actually ready to be made – and that’s proven to be true in the time since.

The TV show Lanterns is expected in 2026, and Supergirl will follow next summer. However, several other projects have been delayed, even as new ones are revealed. Although the Themiscyra series isn’t currently progressing, James Gunn has confirmed a Wonder Woman movie is being developed. His latest announcement has increased optimism about Wonder Woman’s role in the new DC Universe.

James Gunn celebrated Wonder Woman’s anniversary by pointing out her incredible life: she’s been married to an alien, broken the moon, transformed into a gorilla, and even served as a UN Ambassador! He called it a life well-lived and praised the iconic Amazonian warrior.

Why James Gunn’s Wonder Woman Post Is Significant For Her Movie Future

This post might just be celebrating a comic book anniversary, but it’s worth pointing out that James Gunn often uses these posts to highlight characters who are officially part of the DC Universe. He did the same thing with Hal Jordan, announcing Kyle Chandler’s casting in Lanterns with a similar post. Earlier this year, he used Jimmy Olsen’s anniversary to reveal the first look at Skyler Gisondo as Superman.

Okay, so these recent social media posts? They definitely hint at something bigger. Specifically with Wonder Woman, I’m convinced James Gunn has a plan for her within the new DCU. We haven’t heard much officially about the Wonder Woman movie lately, but Ana Nogueira, who’s doing great work on Supergirl, is writing the script. My guess is Gunn is wisely holding off on any big announcements until the script is fully polished and ready to go. It’s a smart move, really.

The next step will probably be finding a director and then casting the actress who plays Wonder Woman, Diana Prince. However, this all depends on how quickly and successfully the script is written. DC’s upcoming Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, is also delayed because its script is still in progress, as James Gunn mentioned earlier this year.

Although James Gunn’s recent message didn’t offer concrete details about the new Wonder Woman movie, it suggests the project is still in development and will be included in the DC Universe‘s future plans. We can hope to hear a more substantial announcement soon.
