Wonder Woman Game Cancelled as WB Games Closes Monolith, Player First, and WB San Diego Studios
As a dedicated fan, it’s been buzzing around that Warner Bros. Games is planning a significant overhaul, potentially leading to some drastic alterations. This might include the shutdown of Monolith Productions, the team behind the fantastic games like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and F.E.A.R., and the unfortunate cancellation of their upcoming Wonder Woman game.
Initial reports about this situation came from Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, which has since been confirmed by WB Games. Additionally, it appears that both Monolith Productions (responsible for MultiVersus) and Player First Games are set to be closed, with the latter’s game also being delisted in May. Furthermore, Warner Bros. San Diego is one of the studios undergoing closure as well.
Recently established, WB San Diego was intended to lead Warner Bros.’ venture into AAA free-to-play games. However, as stated by WB Games, the decision to close the studio is one of several tough choices being made. This move is part of a strategy to concentrate on major franchises such as Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC Comics, and Game of Thrones.
Warner Bros. recently started WB San Diego to focus on AAA free-to-play games. But now, due to some difficult decisions, the studio is closing down. This is part of a plan to invest more in well-known franchises like Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC Comics, and Game of Thrones.
It appears that the production of Monolith’s Wonder Woman isn’t aligned with their current DC mandate. As stated, the progress on this project will not continue due to strategic reasons. Our goal was to deliver an exceptional gaming experience for the iconic character, but unfortunately, we can no longer do so within our present objectives.
Earlier reports this month suggested that Monolith’s Wonder Woman game had incurred a cost of $100 million for Warner Bros., and was still several years away from release, despite being announced in 2021. It now seems unlikely that it will ever be released.
