I used to love how straightforward the Marvel movies were, but things got really complicated when Disney+ came along and introduced the multiverse. It felt like the quality became inconsistent, especially with the TV shows. We had some amazing ones like WandaVision and Loki, but then others like She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, and Ironheart just didn’t hit the mark. But honestly, the new show Wonder Man is a game changer! It’s not only a breath of fresh air, but it’s raised the bar for all the future Marvel shows on Disney+. I’m really excited about where things are going now.
All episodes of Wonder Man Season 1 are now available, starting today, January 28th. The show has been very well-received by both critics and viewers. Critics initially gave it a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which has settled to a still-strong 90%. As of today, viewers have given it a 91% rating on the site – the highest score for any live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe series.
The show is performing exceptionally well with audiences, matching the popularity of X-Men ’97 across all Marvel Cinematic Universe series. It’s particularly impressive that it surpassed WandaVision’s 88% audience score – a high standard set by that show since 2021 – given that these characters aren’t as widely known as other Marvel heroes.
What Everyone is Saying About ‘Wonder Man’
The series Wonder Man, starring Hollywood actor Simon Williams, could have easily fallen flat, but instead focuses on a surprisingly intimate story. Rather than relying on typical Marvel spectacle and action, it centers on the connection between Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s character and the returning Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley.
Reviewers loved the dynamic between the main characters in Wonder Man, with one New York Times critic even drawing comparisons to the classic film Midnight Cowboy, noting how the leads’ friendship is challenged. While audiences usually expect large-scale action from Marvel, they’ve generally welcomed this story’s more subtle and character-driven approach.
Viewers are really enjoying the new series, praising its unique approach to the superhero genre. Some call it a standout Marvel show on Disney+, and one of the best yet. Despite intentionally distancing itself from the typical Marvel Cinematic Universe formula, ‘Wonder Man’ seems to be exactly what fans were hoping for.

Although there’s been talk of a second season, it’s not confirmed if one will happen. Marvel Spotlight shows usually tell self-contained stories, similar to single-issue comics. Wonder Man’s story might be finished as a standalone show, but if enough people watch it and enjoy it, Simon Williams – or even Trevor Slattery – could reappear in future Marvel projects.
