The creator of the show Wonder Man, Andrew Guest, recently explained what happened to Josh Gad’s character, who was notably absent, and gave some clues about what might happen in Season 2. He clarified the reasons for Gad’s character’s disappearance and how it will affect the story going forward.

At the end of Wonder Man Season 1’s fourth episode, Josh Gad’s character vanishes after trying to go through Door Man, leaving his storyline unfinished.
According to showrunner Andrew Guest, Josh Gad’s character is currently trapped inside the Door Man. Guest told Dexerto that if the show gets a second season, he plans to free Gad’s character and return him to the outside world. He also hinted at a potential storyline where Gad’s character could gain powers from being inside the Door Man for so long, possibly even becoming the new Door Man himself!
The show’s creators wrote the character of Gad specifically after Gad agreed to be on the show. According to Josh Guest, speaking with Entertainment Weekly, they always planned a celebrity cameo for that episode, and Gad was their first choice. The fourth episode centers around DeMarr Davis, a bouncer who becomes the superhero ‘Door Man.’ Gad plays a heightened version of himself, and the episode shows DeMarr gaining popularity after rescuing people from a fire.
This episode delves into the backstory of the “Doorman Clause,” a fictional insurance policy within the show. It came about after Gad vanished under mysterious circumstances and prevents people with superpowers from taking action. According to co-creator Destin Daniel Cretton, Gad subtly influenced DeMarr, ultimately leading to a sad outcome. The episode also features a fun moment where Gad creates an electronic dance music (EDM) remix of the song “In Summer” from Frozen, which Cretton called a great track.
As a movie buff, I always find it fascinating when a character’s journey feels like a warning. In this case, it really highlights how dangerous fame can be, especially for people with incredible powers. I recently learned from Andrew Guest that the Marvel character Doorman was a big inspiration for this story. Apparently, the writers specifically wanted to explore what it would be like for someone – like Simon Williams – to really want to forge their own path and career, independent of everything else.
