Woman of Tomorrow
In a recent interview, James Gunn announced that one of the upcoming DCU films is undergoing a title change. The reimagined DC universe, spearheaded by James Gunn, is on the brink of its cinematic debut with the David Corenswet-led “Superman”, but it’s not the only major film in store for the franchise. Coming next summer, the superhero universe will introduce its second big-screen project, previously titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“.
James Gunn, one of the co-CEOs at DC Studios, recently announced that the working title for the upcoming Supergirl movie will be altered. Previously known as “Woman of Tomorrow,” it seems this moniker won’t be used anymore, marking the second time a DC Universe film has switched its title during production. This change follows in the footsteps of the upcoming Superman movie, which was originally titled “Superman: Legacy.
I recently learned from a Rolling Stone profile that the project is now named “Supergirl.” When inquired about the title “Woman of Tomorrow,” I was delighted to share this exciting news.
Q: “That’s no longer called ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ correct?”
A: “[Pauses.] I think it’s just called ‘Supergirl.'”
Additionally, he shared insights into the progress of the upcoming superhero blockbuster, implying that his time on set for the film was minimal. He hinted that the work directed by Craig Gillespie appears extraordinary.
1) What amount of time did you spend on the set while they were filming “Supergirl,” a show that will air next year as it completes its main photography?
Initially, there wasn’t much progress due to my busy schedule, as you can understand. However, I was deeply engaged during the scriptwriting phase. Since then, director Craig Gillespie has been an outstanding collaborator. He’s been working independently, and it’s fascinating to see how he pieces things together. At this moment, it appears truly impressive; it’s some really exciting material.
On June 26, 2026, you can catch the new DCU movie titled Supergirl in theaters. The film features Milly Alcock from “House of the Dragon” as the lead character Superman’s cousin, and notable actors like Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, and Jason Momoa are also part of the cast.
Under the guidance of director Craig Gillespie, this upcoming movie chronicles Kara Zor-El, portrayed by Alcock, who is also known as Superman’s powerful cousin Kal-El’s relative. As she traverses the cosmos on a soulful quest, Kara grapples with the emotional aftermath of witnessing her home planet’s devastation.
