Blink-182’s 1999 album, *Enema of the State*, made them internationally famous, and its playful cover art became iconic alongside the music.
For decades, fans haven’t been able to forget the book’s cover: a striking image of a nurse with bold blue eyeshadow, shiny red lipstick, and a latex glove, suggesting she’s ready to take action.
As a huge fan, I remember when ‘Enema of the State’ really blew up! Tracks like ‘What’s My Age Again?’ and ‘All the Small Things’ were everywhere, and it’s no surprise the album became Blink-182’s biggest, selling over 15 million copies worldwide. It truly defined a generation!
But the striking woman on the sleeve wasn’t a professional model hired for a one-off shoot.
Janine Lindemulder is a former adult film actress who’s changed a lot since her time in the spotlight during the pop-punk era.
More than 25 years later, Lindemulder is almost unrecognizable from the nurse who graced the cover.
She’s ditched her signature blonde hair and glamorous image for a fresh new look, complete with tattoos and a completely reinvented style.
Lindemulder is also active on social media and has been creating content on OnlyFans since 2017.

The service costs about $10 per month. Her profile highlights her past work, including being a ‘Penthouse Pet’ in 1987, appearing in adult films, being inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame, modeling for Blink-182, and winning several awards for her performances.
Despite being honored with a place in the Adult Video News Hall of Fame in 2002, Lindemulder had tried to leave the adult film industry three years before, hoping to become a kindergarten teacher.
The plan didn’t quite work out, and by 2004 she had returned to acting, working with multiple studios.
Her life outside of work was just as busy. She married Jesse James, the founder of West Coast Choppers, in 2002, and they had a daughter together. However, they divorced two years later.
In 2008, Lindemulder served six months in federal prison after failing to pay $300,000 in taxes.
Photographer David Goldman is largely responsible for the unique look of the band Enema of the State, and he recently shared the surprising story behind Mark Lindemulder’s signature latex glove.
He shared with the Huffington Post that the album was almost named ‘Turn Your Head and Cough’ right up until the final decision.
So, I was thinking about this, and the image of a glove just popped into my head. It sounds silly, but honestly, an enema and a glove don’t really connect, and I just thought the contrast was a funny picture in my mind. It was a visual thing, you know?

As a lifestyle expert, I often get asked about ‘overnight success’ stories. People assume that one big break instantly launches a career, and with the famous album cover, many thought that’s exactly what happened to the photographer. But he actually told me the impact, while significant, wasn’t quite the massive jump everyone believes it was. It was a great opportunity, of course, but success is rarely that simple!
Honestly, it didn’t make the big impact I expected. I was hoping it would be a turning point, but it turned out to be just another positive experience, which I appreciated and remembered.
The album cover famously featured Blink-182 – Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus, and Tom DeLonge – posing in just their underwear, with a costumed figure, Lindemulder, standing behind them.
Decades later, both the band and the cover star remain entwined in pop culture nostalgia.
Blink-182 is still touring and gaining new fans, but meanwhile, Janine Lindemulder has moved on to other things. Still, she’ll always be known as the face of one of pop-punk’s most famous albums.
