Woke Actress Sparks Fury After Being Trashed by Co-Star
Ariana DeBose has apologized profusely for unintentionally criticizing her West Side Story colleague, Rachel Zegler, in a seemingly off-the-cuff remark.
Debose posted a statement attributed to Jonah Platt, aged 38, who is the son of Marc Platt, the producer of Snow White, aged 67. In this statement, it appears that Jonah placed the blame for the movie’s poor performance on Zegler.
On a vibrant rose background, her Instagram post stated: ‘Indulgent self-love isn’t something to be nurtured or reinforced.’
Since then, the message has been removed from DeBose’s timeline. She quickly deleted it and claimed in a subsequent post that she wasn’t aware it pertained to Zegler, who is 34 years old.
An apology to Zegler was absent from her clarification.
In a recent post on Instagram Stories, DeBose, aged 34, admitted that she often shares quotes and found this particular one significant. However, she also acknowledged that she hadn’t done any research about the origin of the quote and only became aware of its connection when it was brought to her attention.

I don’t plan on getting involved in current events discussions. I’ve talked about self-centeredness before and may do so again in the future, but I’ll make sure to explain its background next time around.
Originally, DeBose’s deleted post was arranged to the rhythm of Beyonce’s empowering song “Cozy,” where Beyonce sings about rebounding after receiving a metaphorical blow, symbolized by a ‘dagger’ in her back.
She disabled the comment section on her post, thereby silencing her more than 700,000 followers from engaging in the ongoing controversy.
During West Side Story’s 2022 awards season, there were whispers that DeBose and Zegler may have experienced a disagreement or conflict.
Despite the uncertainty about any potential drama between them, Zegler didn’t publicly acknowledge or congratulate DeBose, who she had previously expressed affection for, upon winning the Best Supporting Actress award at that specific year’s Oscars.
In my zeal, I reshared a picture of DeBose portraying Anita in West Side Story – a part previously brought to life by the illustrious Oscar-winner Rita Moreno – on my Instagram Story back then.
After the event, it appears that the two actresses reciprocally stopped following each other on Instagram the very next day. Interestingly, Zelger was given a late invitation to attend, as she was originally overlooked by the Academy for this ceremony.
Recently, I find myself right in the thick of things as my opinions have sparked quite a stir, contributing to the growing uproar about Disney’s modern take on the Snow White tale.
The movie that premiered in cinemas on March 21 with a production cost of $270 million is projected to turn into a profitable venture at the box office, as it earned only $42.2 million during its first weekend in U.S. theaters.

This week, the movie “Snow White,” featuring Gal Gadot, has earned a total of $66.9 million within the U.S. over its first two weekends, while grossing $142.7 million globally.
In simpler terms, the modern version of the 1937 animated film has not received positive reviews from critics, as indicated by its 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
According to Deadline’s estimates, it’s expected that Disney might end up losing approximately $115 million on this movie once all costs are accounted for.
Last week, Jonah Platt, son of producer Marc Platt, surprised fans by expressing anger towards Zegler, suggesting she might be responsible for the movie’s failure to succeed.

In a since-removed Instagram post, Marc’s oldest son, Jonah, labeled Zegler as ‘immaturity personified’ and suggested she exhibits traits of self-centeredness or narcissism.
In reaction to a fan’s remark, which was linked to an article from Variety reporting that Marc allegedly traveled to New York for discussions with Zegler regarding her contentious pro-Palestine social media statements, he took this action.
A spectator’s remark stated: ‘It’s reported that your dad traveled to NYC to scold a young actress. Care to share some thoughts on this? I find it extremely inappropriate and unnecessary. Isn’t everyone entitled to freedom of speech? It’s disgraceful.’
Are you seriously intending to proceed with this?
Absolutely, it appears that due to one of his employees integrating her political views inappropriately into promotional activities for a Disney project worth hundreds of millions, my father, who is the producer responsible for this significant intellectual property, had to travel cross-country to address the matter with a 20-year-old staff member who violated her contractual agreement. This breach required her to perform and promote the film publicly for a substantial remuneration.
In simpler terms, during the podcast, the host expressed that the actions in question had a noticeable negative impact on the movie’s ticket sales.
He went on to explain, “Expressing your opinions freely doesn’t give you the license to say whatever you wish at your workplace without facing consequences.
Many individuals contributed significantly to that movie, but unfortunately, she took control of the discussion, prioritizing her juvenile whims over the team, potentially jeopardizing the success of the film for everyone involved – from fellow artists to hardworking crew members and blue-collar workers whose livelihoods rely on its success.

‘Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged,’ Jonah concluded his explosive rant.
Since then, Jonah’s reaction has received criticism from numerous online users, as they voiced their opinions following the intense discussion.
It’s quite unusual, some might say, for a 67-year-old billionaire with grown children to have had to abandon his family,” one user commented.
In a playful manner, someone, referring to Momma Platt, said to the 38-year-old Jonah and 31-year-old Ben in her embrace: “Aren’t you two planning on visiting HER again while I’m here taking care of our little ones?
A different person remarked that Jonah Platt, who is almost forty, appears quite agitated over a girl born in 2001 in the comments section of Instagram…
‘Jonah Platt seems unaware of film production processes. The box office earnings don’t influence the blue-collar workers who contributed to this movie, as they had already received their compensation.’
Zegler has sparked backlash with a series of controversial tweets in recent months.
In August, she expressed gratitude on X (previously known as Twitter), in a post that originally acknowledged fan support regarding Snow White.
She expressed: ‘I adore each one of you immensely! Thank you for the affection, and for reaching 120 million views on our trailer within a day – it’s been quite an adventure! Right now, I’m engrossed in rehearsals for Romeo + Juliet, so I need to scram. See you later.’

A moment afterward, she expressed her backing for Palestine during the conflict in Gaza within the same conversation, saying, “Also, never forget, liberate Palestine.
According to Variety’s report, the studio’s concerns regarding a specific post were brought up by an executive to the team of the person responsible for it, Zegler. Subsequently, the film’s producer, Marc, traveled to New York to discuss this matter with the actress. However, she declined to remove the post from her platform.
Additionally, he recommended collaborating with a professional in social media management, after she made posts containing profanity towards Donald Trump and expressed a wish for Trump supporters to never find peace, following the 2024 presidential election.
According to a recent report by The New York Times, it was necessary for Platt to emphasize the significance of the movie and her career before asking her to exercise caution in her actions.

A source revealed to Variety: ‘She wasn’t aware of the implications of her behavior regarding the movie, for Gal, or for anyone else involved.’
The movie faced additional issues beyond Zegler’s remarks, as it faced allegations that it was undergoing a purge to eliminate outdated cultural references and stereotypes, which some people referred to as a modernizing or progressive overhaul.
Actors of short stature such as Peter Dinklage and ‘Wee Man’ from MTV’s Jackass series voiced their disagreement over the casting choice that didn’t involve actors with dwarfism for the roles of Doc, Bashful, Dopey, Grumpy, Sneezy, Happy, and Sleepy.
