Will Wedge Antilles appear in 'The Mandalorian and Grogu?'

As a seasoned gamer and Star Wars enthusiast with a soft spot for iconic characters, I can’t help but express my excitement at the prospect of Wedge Antilles gracing our screens once more! With his rich history dating back to the original trilogy, this character has been a staple in the hearts of many fans like myself.

He survived both Death Star trench runs and has been a popular character since his first appearance in A New Hope, becoming a staple in the rest of the original trilogy. However, Wedge Antilles has only had one movie appearance since then, when the character made a brief cameo in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

In possible upcoming Star Wars stories, or even within the Mandoverse, the development of this character might be significant. Following the Battle of Jakku, the character took up a role as a flying instructor in the Hosnian Prime system.

Before the premiere of “The Mandalorian,” events unfold that set the stage for the Mandoverse narrative. In “The Mandalorian,” several Rebel pilots make appearances, so it makes sense for Wedge to leave his teaching duties temporarily to join the New Republic’s battle against the lingering Imperial forces.

In the world we live in, it seems quite fitting for Wedge to show up in the upcoming “The Mandalorian & Grogu” film, set to release in 2026. Characters from the original trilogy have already popped up in the Mandoverse, such as Mon Mothma, Boba Fett, and C-3PO.

In the animated series “Star Wars Rebels,” Wedge was a regular character who crossed paths with individuals who later appeared in the “Ahsoka” spinoff, such as Sabine Wren, his friend, and Hera Syndulla, his commanding officer. It’s only natural to assume that these former allies would maintain contact with their battle-tested comrade.

There’s a possibility that the character Wedge could make a comeback. But the question is how? Could Denis Lawson, who played Wedge in the original films, reprise his role? A potential way might be similar to how Mark Hamill was utilized in both “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett”, where advanced technology could be used to create a younger version of the character.

The technology saw notable advancements between “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” If Lawson were involved, it would be delightful for viewers. Otherwise, the casting team might face challenges finding a suitable actor to embody such a legendary figure.

Spectators erupted in applause as they spotted Wedge Antilles on the Millennium Falcon during the finale of The Rise of Skywalker. If he reappears in the film, particularly in his prime, it could elicit an even more enthusiastic response from the audience.
