Will Trent Star Discusses Playing the Intense Seizure Scene and Future Season 4 Challenges

Actor Jake McLaughlin, known for his role in the hit ABC series “Will Trent,” discussed the storyline involving Detective Michael Ormewood’s brain tumor and his emotions while portraying it on screen. In the final episode of season 3, Ormewood was diagnosed with a brain tumor, causing him to faint and seize after receiving the shocking news. The season ended on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating what would happen in season 4. Although it remains uncertain whether Ormewood will recover in the upcoming season, he is set to reappear in “Will Trent” season 4.

During an interview with Rachel Foertsch from ScreenRant, McLaughlin opened up about the brain tumor storyline in the show and his experience portraying it. According to McLaughlin, although filming such a scene was challenging, he aimed to make it as authentic as possible. He felt a strong responsibility to do justice to those who have faced similar situations.

ScreenRant: This season, Ormewood’s brain tumor has played a significant role in the plot. Could you share your experience portraying that aspect, and can we anticipate where his character might head next?

Jake McLaughlin: The storyline is quite weighty. I aim to portray scenes as authentically as possible, based on my own reactions and then translating that into the character. There are heavier moments, like when I discover I have a tumor, and in the final scene of this episode’s finale, there’s an open-ended storyline which was a bit peculiar since I’ve only witnessed two seizures before, neither of which were due to a brain tumor. So, I had to strike a balance, and I hope I didn’t misrepresent anyone who has experienced seizures due to a brain tumor. I strive for the portrayal to appear realistic.

What This Means For Ormewood’s Storyline In Will Trent Season 4

Despite undergoing a health issue related to a brain tumor in season 4, Ormewood is expected to reappear in the upcoming season. McLaughlin has indicated that Ormewood should recover from his health concerns for ‘Will Trent’ season 4, but due to the tumor affecting his vision, the show may delve into the consequences of Ormewood’s seizure and what follows after the discovery of the tumor. It has been confirmed that Ormewood will need to undergo surgery to remove the tumor, as it interferes with his spatial awareness and could impact his ability to perform his duties.

Before the brain tumor diagnosis, Ormewood was fully engrossed in his professional responsibilities. Now that he’s grappling with his mortality due to this tumor, there might be a shift in Ormewood’s role as a detective, leaning more towards personal matters. Given that he has two sons, Max and Cooper, whom he’s grown particularly close to since his divorce from Gina Ormewood, the narrative could delve deeper into his family life.

Our Take On Ormewood’s Diagnosis On Will Trent

Despite being surprising, Ormewood’s brain tumor diagnosis presents an intriguing challenge for the cast of Will Trent, particularly McLaughlin who portrays Ormewood. As McLaughlin expressed in his interview, this topic was quite weighty, and he strives to have done the scene well, which he achieved. In the upcoming season 4 of Will Trent, McLaughlin will continue to grapple with this heavy storyline that could significantly influence the direction of the TV series.
