Will Trent Season 3: Angie’s Replacement Is Gone For Good
In the final four episodes of the third season of “Will Trent,” a key character, who originally took Angie’s place, will not appear in any of them. The ABC series has seen its main characters grapple with various challenges and emotional turmoil throughout this season, with Will facing more than his fair share. They have experienced loss, discovered new relationships, tackled complex and risky cases, and forged unexpected friendships. The upcoming episodes of “Will Trent” are eagerly anticipated, but we can be certain that one individual will not be present to witness or deal with whatever comes next.
After the startling end of season 2 for Will Trent, the characters faced difficulties resuming their normal lives in season 3, with Will and Angie being particularly affected since their romantic bond was irrevocably broken. As far as episode 14 is concerned, Will and Angie appear to be getting along well (at least on a friendship level). However, it seems that Will’s mental state has perhaps never been more fragile. An unfortunate event occurred in episode 11 where he accidentally shot and killed a young boy, which will undoubtedly haunt him for several future episodes. Sadly, one of Will’s closest confidants won’t be there to offer support during this trying time.
Will Trent May Have Seen The Last Of Gina Rodriguez’s Marion
Rodriguez Won’t Return In Will Trent Season 3
As reported by TVLine, Gina Rodriguez’s character Marion Alba (who took over for Angie in Will Trent’s role) will not be returning in season 3 of the series. One of Rodriguez’s final appearances (not including dream sequences) was in episode 12, where Marion expressed her love for Will but he couldn’t reciprocate due to his recent emotional turmoil. In essence, Marion opted to take a break from Will while he was on his undercover assignment, and informed him that she would be there when he was ready to discuss things, but it appears that their reunion will not occur before the end of season 3.
In a conversation with TVLine, showrunner Liz Heldens revealed that Marion won’t reappear before the end of this season. She clarified that the story doesn’t have enough space left to accommodate Rodriguez’s character Will Trent in the upcoming episodes, hinting at potential troubles for other characters in the remaining installments.
Why It’s Disappointing That Marion Isn’t Returning Anymore In Will Trent Season 3
Marion Was Good For Will
In essence, the primary characters in the TV series “Will Trent” have mostly remained consistent over its three seasons, with only five key figures: Will Trent, Angie Polaski, Faith Mitchell, Amanda Wagner, and Michael Ormewood. As the story unfolds, new characters are occasionally introduced, some of whom challenge the established order, for better or worse. The arrival of Marion was particularly beneficial. Unfortunately, it’s disheartening to know that Marion won’t be reappearing in “Will Trent” for the remainder of season 3.
Will Trent Season 3 Cast | Character |
---|---|
Ramón Rodríguez | Will Trent |
Erika Christensen | Angie Polaski |
Iantha Richardson | Faith Mitchell |
Jake McLaughlin | Michael Ormewood |
Sonja Sohn | Amanda Wagner |
Gina Rodriguez | Marion Alba |
Bluebell | Betty |
Cora Lu Tran | Nico |
Scott Foley | Dr. Seth McDale |
Antwayn Hopper | Rafael Wexford |
Deion Smith | Jeremy Mitchell |
Darius Jordan Lee | Elijah Buckley |
It’s unfortunate that Marion has been away for so long because her storyline in season 3 of “Will Trent” seems unfinished. Her breakup with Will happened very quickly. As a result, the relationship between Will and Marion didn’t get a proper ending, which they both deserve after the ABC police procedural series put effort into developing their romance in the first half of season 3. It was a missed opportunity for Marion to leave several episodes before the finale of “Will Trent” season 3. Will and Marion make a good pair, but it seems like their timing wasn’t right. They should have a heart-to-heart talk about everything before anyone (including the audience) can fully move on.
Marion Still Needs To Return In Will Trent Season 4
Rodriguez Can Still Appear In Season 5
In the final scenes, Marion can’t be shown to Will through a dream sequence, as he asks her to wait for him until his mental health improves (in approximately two years). This leaves Marion’s character arc and their relationship with Will incomplete. Since she won’t appear again before the end of season 3, Rodriguez might reprise her role in ‘Will Trent’ season 4. The positive aspect is that there’s a possibility for her return, as the co-showrunner told TVLine, “I think Gina Rodriguez is terrific… I wouldn’t completely rule out her coming back in season 4.
Although there hasn’t been any official announcement about Marion appearing in Season 4 of the show, given that Will’s dream sequence indicates he still harbors feelings for her, it seems likely she might make an appearance. However, Marion may not be Will’s ultimate romantic partner. Yet, disregarding their past relationship wouldn’t be realistic. Therefore, it’s plausible that actress Rodriguez will reprise her role as Marion in Will Trent Season 4, even if it’s for just one episode, to provide a satisfying conclusion to Marion’s character and her relationship with Will.
