Will Till blame Layton for Ben’s death in Snowpiercer?
As a seasoned Snowpiercer fan with years of survival and political intrigue under my belt, I can confidently say that Till is no stranger to hardship and loss. The death of Ben, the first engineer, was a heart-wrenching blow, one that left us all stunned. It’s only natural for someone in her position to seek answers, to find someone or something to blame.
In simpler terms, as Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 5 concluded, a sad demise occurred. Might Till seek to assign responsibility for this tragic event? Could she potentially lay the blame at Layton’s feet? And what role might Ruth play in all of this?
In the closing moments of Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 5, our first engineer met his tragic end. Ben chose self-sacrifice to ensure the safety of Big Alice’s inhabitants. This was an act Till witnessed, understanding that Ben had foreseen this outcome and chose not to share it with her. She had believed he would continue to bravely endure Snowpiercer’s hardships for a bit longer.
In many cases, individuals often look for someone to hold accountable when dealing with a loss of life. Till appears to have found an appropriate target in Layton.
Had Layton not fallen into the trap, Ben’s death wouldn’t have happened in Snowpiercer
It’s clear that Layton shares some responsibility for Ben’s demise, as he advocated for Big Alice to rescue Liana. However, Ruth opposed this idea, but ultimately, it went to a community vote. Regrettably, in the end, more people supported Layton’s viewpoint than Ruth’s.
If this incident hadn’t occurred, it would have prevented a scenario where Ben had to exit to manually disconnect the trains. Till perceived this unfortunate circumstance in her feelings of anger and sorrow over Ben’s demise.
Till knows that they could die at any point on Snowpiercer
On the contrary, Till has historically avoided pointing fingers at others. Therefore, it’s unlikely that she would do so now. Fundamentally, she recognizes that any incident could have befallen any one of them aboard Snowpiercer.
It appears that Milius and his Animal Squad have been responsible for some setbacks during the past year. Till was the unfortunate first victim when the Animal Squad gained control, which has left her with a deep-seated resentment towards them. She is all too aware that Ben’s life could have easily been claimed by the Animal Squad at any given moment.
Ben’s passing has inadvertently left the Animal Squad short-staffed, particularly in the engineering department as he and Miles were key members. Now, only Alex remains, with Melanie potentially returning from her assignment. However, there seems to be tension between Wilfred and Milius, which could pose a challenge for the team’s cohesion.
Till experiences a range of emotions, including anger, which occasionally challenges her to manage it effectively. However, she generally doesn’t express this anger in an unfair or unjustified manner towards others. In the aftermath of the last episode, she may be angry at Layton, Ruth, herself, and Ben, but she understands that their roles in the incident are not entirely their fault. Instead, she holds Milius and the Animal Squad accountable for the events that transpired.
